Just thought about his. remember last season's game against Barca and the one before that against PSV, Van Bommel has it in for us and he plays like a possesed man.

So this is definately good news

Was thinking about it too.

He took his revenge for eliminating his team (PSV Eid) last season and now it's our time again! cool.gif

He's a defemsive midfielder.

But I can say as much as you as to how much he is influential to their game  unsure.gif

Ask La Palma when he is around he'll clear it up better.
*

Ahh, thx for giving me the word han king.gif
Besides the fact that this a stupid decision Bayern will be much weaker without Van Bommel. He was bought to fill the gap Ballack left, of course he couldn't do that, but he definetely became the leader of Bayern midfield, if not of the entire team. He plays in a more offensive postion than he did with Barca, and is always there to score.
So it's a stupid decision IMO by the UEFA, but a very good one for us.
And yes, till now he'll miss both ties, but I'm sure Bayern will try do convince the UEFA to let him play in the 2nd leg.

How come this is a stupid decision?? I think it's fair cause his gesture was utterly inappropriate although I think he should have already served his exclusion in the 2nd leg game against Real. Of course it's better for us that he didn't but it would have been the right thing!

The punishment after his gestures was on probation. How can two yellow cards be as bad as such useless gestures?
dst
It's not like a yellow card is really that bad. It's given on dangerous play mostly... well Van Bommel's gesture can harm more than a bad tackle IMO! Millions of people have watched the highlight again and again! It does NOT belong in football while a yellow card is on schedule!

That's exactly what I think. But Van Bommel should have been banned after his gestures in the first place. But the UEFA decided not to. And now, after this two yellows in the 2nd leg aganist Real they decided to ban him for 2 matches? Seems to me that the UEFA doesn't really know what they want...

OT: This is the CL thread... but it's more like the UEFA competitions one.

1/2 finals:

AZ v Bremen X Espanyol v Benfica
Leverkusen v Osasuna X Sevilla v Tottenham

Then we'll have the final in Glasgow.

But... Espanyol is not an easy task. AZ too.

I agree about Benficas name. A final between Bremen and Benfica would also be interesting. Leverkusen is not good enough to make it that far. Btw, I haven't watched Benfica since their last CL Match. How are they doing? And is Rui back again?

Yap, their team is even better than the one they had in 2004 when they won the Bundesliga. With their great youngsters like Diego, Hunt and Mertesacker. Then they've go some players in the best football age like Borowski and Klose. Almeida also seems to fit into the team, not to mention that GK Tim Wiese improved a lot since he joined the team.

I dont like German football too much, but whenever Bremen play .. I am at awe at what the team does on the field king.gif

It is like Winning Eleven, their passing and crosses are as accurate as can be. The used to lack defensively, last season, but this season are on top of their game cool.gif

Bayern duo banned at Milan?
Friday 16 March, 2007

Oliver Kahn and Lucio have been charged by UEFA for “improper conduct” during a doping test and could be suspended for the quarter-final against Milan.

The official website states that the two players “were found to have breached basic rules of good conduct” in a post-match doping control after the second leg victory over Real Madrid in Munich last week.

Bayern won that game 2-1, progressing to the next phase of the competition on the away goals rule, 4-4 on aggregate.

The German club is set to face Milan in the quarter-finals on April 3 and 11, but the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body will give its verdict on March 22.

It is possible both goalkeeper Kahn and Brazilian defender Lucio – who scored in that game – will be suspended.

Bayern will already be without Mark Van Bommel, who was handed a one-match ban for using an offensive gesture towards the Real Madrid fans in the Bernabeu.

This is sad.

Of course nothing will happen cause it's UEFA policy to cover drug-related issues up and in this case I'm glad they do so cause I want us to face them with all their players not go through because of something like this.

Nothing on the Bayern Munich site that says so .. They just got fined .. So we will see them on the 3rd of April devilsmiley.gif

Morientes to miss Chelsea ties

Valencia CF striker Fernando Morientes is expected to sit out both legs of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Chelsea FC after dislocating his shoulder while playing for Spain on Wednesday night.

Four-week lay-off
According to Spain's medical staff, Morientes faces up to four weeks on the sidelines after falling awkwardly just before half-time during the 1-0 UEFA EURO 2008â„¢ qualifying win against Iceland. The centre-forward, who turns 31 the day after the first leg at Stamford Bridge on 4 April, is also doubtful for the return six days later.

Shoulder blow
"Morientes's shoulder was dislocated and he will need to have it immobilised for 15 days so he will be missing for three to four weeks," said Spain team doctor Genaro Borrás. "It's not the first time Morientes has had problems with his shoulder so the area is unstable and he will need that time to recover." The news will come as a major blow to Valencia, for whom the experienced target man has scored 12 league goals and found the net five times in seven UEFA Champions League appearances this term.

Liverpool show in Eindhoven, owning the home team with some good goals. The Merseyside Reds are the first club to get in the semi-finals.

Big possibility. I can't see Chelsea, playing the way they're playing and with some injuries, beating Liverpool.
Valencia... Benitez knows them very well.

And it's the only competition left for them. Just like 2 years ago. The 3rd or 4th place is the same for Liverpool/Arsenal.

Roma-United will be an interesting match tonight.

I would put my money on Chelsea. This year it's more important for them to win the CL (even than the EPL) and they will be extra motivated (Mourinho too).
