Manchester United will later this week announce a huge increase in turnover to £245 million, plus the highest profit figure ever recorded by an English football club.

The Scotsman reports tht Manchester United are set to release financial results that reflect how the club have cashed in on their outstandingly successful 2006/07 season on the pitch.

In last season's campaign, United won the Premier League title for the first time in four years, reached the final of the FA Cup and the semi-final of the Champions League.

It was a performance that helped them reclaim heir status as the richest club in England.

Last September, Arsenal assumed that mantle when they reported turnover of £201 million.

But United have also factored into their figures the revenue from their long-term contract with shirt manufacturers Nike. This has never previously been included.

It leaves United as the wealthiest club once again in England, only slightly behind  Real Madrid who are the richest on the world stage.

Confirmation of United's £245 million figure for overall business turnover will come from Old Trafford overnight on Thursday.

The club itself will report turnover in excess of £200 millon for its core football activities, says The Scotsman.

The overall results are also expected to confirm the highest profit figure ever achieved by an English football club.

The Scotsman argues that this "may go some way to easing the widespread concerns of many fans over the debt incurred during the American billionaire Malcolm Glazer's controversial takeover in 2005."

The figures have also allowed United to reduce their wages-to-turnover ratio down to 43.6 per cent, comfortably within the 50 per cent limit set by the Glazer family as a long-term aim.

Given the new TV deal currently in place and the fact that United are still well in contention for honours on three fronts, the club could improve on last season's exceptional financial results - especially if new their commercial director, Richard Arnold, can capitalise on a global fan-base now estimated at 333 million according to market research company TNS Sport.

That is a lot of money. And we had 1 million to show??!!!

Don't compare Serie A to the EPL, Abi ... Cuz the EPL is the richest football league in the world.

Barclays bank is the sponsor and pays each club, even those that are relegated or the ones that survive relegation, let alone the ones that fight for a top for place wink.gif

Then you have the TV contracts that stretch from the far west to the far east .. And that is just to get started ..

In Serie A, teams are worse off in terms of finances, how do you think a team like City, Tottenham or Newcastle can afford to pay the wages that they pay or to pay certain transfer fees. A team like Fiorentina (that has a better league standing over the past 5 years than them) is balancing a thin line.

No wonder foreign owners are interested in EPL clubs, eh wink.gif

But this is still a frightening deficit. How long can this state of affairs continue.

In fact the EPL is responsible for 90% of the football price inflation we are seeing.

Usually through foreign multi-billionaires.

Look at QPR, they are now one of the richest clubs because someone has bought 20% in them!
Tennie
The thing is, a number of the big clubs in England -- MU, Liverpool, Chelsea -- were bought by these billionaires through debt financing. ie, the billionaires didn't just write a check, they financed the purchase through loans, etc. So even if MU has turnover of 200 million, they're also carrying debt that's probably close to that much. So to an extent, the huge profits don't necessarily mean as much.

Man United I would agree with, the others are ok the only way they could get in trouble is if these billionaires get bored and take out their money within the club.

Sunderland football fans on the bawl

A new study commissioned by phone numbers service 118 118 has revealed the loudest, quietest and most consistently vociferous sets of Premier League football fans.
While it might not be enough to put a smile on Roy Keane’s face, the study reveals that Sunderland supporters make the loudest racket in the stands.

The Mackem supporters came out on top in terms of the sound level and frequency of their chants. The average peak volume measured at The Stadium of Light was 129.2 decibels – almost as loud as a jet.

They’re not singing any more

The 118 118 survey didn’t provide such good news for Keane’s former club Manchester United. Despite Old Trafford’s capacity of 76,000, the largest of any Premier League stadium, the Red Devils’ fans could only produce an average peak volume of 117.5 decibels, the fourth worst of the 20 top flight teams.

The remainder of the Premier League’s “Big 4” didn’t fare much better. Chelsea’s fans claimed 6th place but Arsenal’s and Liverpool’s supporters came in 12th and 16th respectively.

The study also revealed the quietest stadium in the Premier League to be Fulham FC’s  Craven Cottage. With a capacity of 26,600, the fans at the West London ground could only generate an average peak volume of 115.4 decibels.

Loudest Premier League fans
1. Sunderland AFC – 129.2 decibels
2. Spurs – 128.3 decibels
3. Manchester City – 127.4 decibels
4. Aston Villa – 126.5 decibels
5. Everton – 126.1 decibels

I thought this was fairly interesting, does not surprise me that Livepool and Uniteds noise level is so low. No shocks that Sunderland are top either, they have great fans, with a near 50k stadium to help. The rest of the top 5 have stadiums that're only just over half as big as Old Trafford, yet they're louder.

A decibel/attendance level would put United way behind everybody. Spurs, Everton and Villa would make up the top 3. Shame on United fans, and when you think they nearly always win at home..

And the problems for Chelsea just continue to increase..

They currently lead Everton 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Carling Cup Semi-Final 1st Leg.. but Mikel, again, has gone in with a stupid tackle and got himself sent off. rolleyes.gif

Well deserved win for Chelsea. Even with 10 man (Mikel with his regular stupid tackle) and with a keeper like Hilario (he did A 'Dida' today). Also, Pizarro was sh!t.

Boss Allardyce leaves Newcastle
Newcastle have parted company with manager Sam Allardyce.
The club, currently 11th in the Premier League, said the decision had been reached by "mutual agreement".

Allardyce, who was in charge for just eight months, said: "I am disappointed to be leaving Newcastle but I wish the club all the best for the future."

Former captain Alan Shearer has been strongly linked with the post but chairman Chris Mort said: "A new manager has not yet been appointed."

First team coach Nigel Pearson will take charge of the team for Saturday's Premier League meeting with Manchester United.

No, It goes like this: "Omelette, eggs. No eggs, no omelettes. It depends on the quality of the eggs. In the supermarket you have eggs, class one, class two, class three. Some are more expensive than others, and some give you better omelettes. When the class one eggs are in Waitrose and you cannot go there, you have a problem" biggrin.gif

Liverpool? Nah.

On Champions League semi finals, yeah, they're great. I've been to Anfield lots of times, they're a very quiet bunch.

Villa, United, Newcastle and Spurs are leagues ahead of the rest of the league when it comes to away support. Liverpool fans are crap, they only show up for big games. United, Arsenal and Liverpool fans are quiet, and it's not really the fans fault, when you're succesful you get rich people buying all the tickets and jumping on the band wagon, Chelsea's supprt will soon drop, too.

The Kop End is a shadow of it's former self, and the stats I showed you were taken from this season, so..

Anyways, Spurs deserves the win in my opinion, the whole team played well and the Arsenal goal was incredibley lucky. Berbatov turned up for a change and Jenas was superb, I think Arsenal will make the final though, to play Chelsea.

Nicolas Anelka hopes to complete his move to Chelsea by the end of this week, according to the player's agent.

Chelsea are said to have made an £11million bid for Anelka on Monday, but Bolton are believed to want more money for their star striker.

Blues boss Avram Grant is keen to seal Anelka's switch to Stamford Bridge in time for Saturday's clash with Tottenham.

And according to Anelka's agent, Doug Pingisi, the forward also hopes to move in time for the visit of Spurs.

Calm

"He really wants to go to Chelsea," Pingisi told L'Equipe.

"Nicolas is calm. He hopes everything will be finalised this week. He has been waiting for such an opportunity for years.

"He appreciates that he is at the top of the list of players wanted by Chelsea at the moment."

Pingisi has also revealed Anelka's motivation for leaving Bolton would be to play in the UEFA Champions League.

High level

"For Nico, it is very important he finds a club that will allow him to express himself at the highest level," Pingisi added.

"Moreover, this club is still involved in every competition, particularly the Champions League."

Sky Sports

Looks like this one will certainly go ahead. He is able to play in the Cl still, he can also play in the League Cup, since Bolton never used him in it. Great buy for Chelsea.

Skysports.com understands Liverpool are on the verge of signing Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel.

The Zenit St Petersburg centre-back has been in talks with Liverpool this week and undergone a medical after the English titans agreed a fee with the Russian outfit.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has been keen to bolster his defensive options and has made Skrtel his top target.

Skrtel's agent Karol Csonto has confirmed the player has passed a medical and that a deal is close to completion.

"Everything is fine, we have a meeting with Rick Parry this afternoon to finalise everything," Csonto told skysports.com

"Martin has passed his medical and the contract is ready to sign.

"We now just wait for Liverpool to announce the details."

Sky Sports

Anybody know anything about him?

Don't know much about Skrtel other than that Zenit won the league this year (I think). They've also qualified for the next round of the UEFA Cup.

And St. Petersburg is a lovely city.

I think the last thing they won was the UEFA Cup in the early 70s, they haven't won a domestic trophy for 50 years. laugh.gif

Their fans think they're bigger than they are, then expect instant success, a manager has no hope at Newcastle. I expect them to hire either Mark Hughes, Martin Jol or David O'Leary as their next manager.

(from the Italian rumor press so take it with a grain of salt).

There are press reports that Olof Mellberg and Martin Laursen were seen dining at Pontaccio restaurant in Milan (I think this is Kaladze's restaurant. It's in the Brera district of town and footballers are seen there frequently). They were in town ostensibly to do shopping but the article is guessing that Mellberg may have gone to Turin (an hour away) for a medical.

It sounds right, Juve have been in for Mellberg for a while now. He's done alot for our club and been loyal, I'd be somewhat disappointed if he does stay at Villa, he deserves to play in the CL.

The disturbing thing is that Laursen is also out of contract in the summer..
