What's wrong with duck flavoured lolipop? It doesn't matter. Strawberry, orange, lemon, chocolate, duck.....you still suck mate!

Well I'm not too keen a protector of Gila, but I was wagering he get one more season to prove himself.
This is where I respect a kid like Pazzini. Luca Toni left, which for the viola is as bad as Sheva leaving, and he's ready to step into his shoes. I mean he's made the mental leap of progression. When I see Gila, it's obvious he hasn't made that mindset change into accepting his role as a primary striker. IMO, Gila left us no choice but to buy R99 and Pato. So if Gila falls down the pecking order, it's his fault. And Carlo's shown a LOT of faith in Gila...a lot. Almost as much as Sheva has from Jose, maybe more. He has to raise his game level. I don't question his dedication or commitment, I just question his mental approach to the whole problem.
There's no I got a point to prove attitude in him. Just, I'll do what I've been doing all along, except I'll try harder at it.

I think Gila is picked on a bit because he's the only guy that isn't as 'Milan' as the rest. Pirlo was nothing short of useless until christmas last year, but we stuck by him. Same goes for the likes of Rino or Seedorf, if they were to have a bad spell, we'd leave it alone. I know Gila's been poor for a while, but he did get 17 league goals in his first season which is very good in my view, and made double figures again last year.

I'm willing to give Gila one more year. I think that last year was more atypical for him than it was for the rest of Milan. I don't know how much ever got translated into english, but there was a rather lurid scandal going on last year in Italy.
A photographer had managed to get pictures of footballers in very compromising situations (eg, Trezeguet out with a woman not his wife, Coco on a boat with a bunch of young men, Adriano partying harder than usual, and....Gila being very friendly with someone not his girlfriend.) The photographer then proceded to blackmail the footballers, with the threat that if he didn't get money, he'd publish the pictures. He finally got caught and there were a series of trials. It came out that Gila did pay the guy (as did Trezeguet, I think), and both had to testify. The guy was finally convicted.
This sort of thing cannot have helped his confidence or concentration.
So now he's got this year to redeem himself. I really hope he does, even if by January he'll be the team's #4 striker.

@Kurt ... Pirlo isn't useless ... Without Pirlo, Milan would face many problems

On form or off form, Pirlo is the key to how Milan play today!
Gila, well, he has been here for 2 seasons, this season being his 3rd. As Milan fans, we are used to profilic goal scorers. And 17 goals a season isn't gonna cut it, well maybe for a mid table team that would be great. But for a team like Milan with the highest of targets, my faith is with Ronaldo and Pippo. Gila is just a bench player IMHO, compared to those two.

17 goals isn't bad at all in my view, I view George Weah as an all-time legend of football, his first three seasons with us I think he got 10, 11 and 13 goals. I know only 34 games were played back then, but he's record is still worse than Gila's!
Gila is never going to be a Pippo, Sheva or R9, that's for sure, but he's still very young. I just don't want Milan to do an 'Inter' and sell somebody with promise, who comes back to haunt us.

Gila is no George Weah !!
He will never be a Pippo, Sheva or R9 ... That is true. He isn't worth the time, IMO. Though Carlo shows faith in him, and I really trust Carlo's judgments so I used to give him the benefit of the doubt. But now it is personal ... I prefer him on the bench, just to complete the numbers; nothing more nothing less.
Loosing Gila ? I think that is a matter of time, depending on how Gila does this season ..

QUOTE (Nova)
Well , we have way too much respect for gila. Every year we are protecting him when he doest score , but when kaladze or even seedorf dont perform its like having the worst defender on earth and a turtle.
And in the end , Those 2 players give so much more then Gila. Ok ok , we can use the "he keeps the defenders & keeper busy" excuse again. But thats not what a striker should do.
Like you said , he probably will score some goals , but I doubt if those will be vital goals and I'm practically sure those goals are midfield made to make his life even more easier.
He's got a long way to go to come even close to the likes of Inzaghi or even sheva.
And if people will say " heyyyy , but gila isnt a striker like sheva , he's more like inzaghi" . Let me tell you , a striker that doesnt score is as useless as a d*ckflavoured lollypop . (quote from dodgeball)
I personally am off the whole Gila band wagon, I'm not outwardly putting him down for his poor displays or calling for his head, but if he wants to gain the support of most of the fans than he has to work his @ss off this season.
I agree with you thougt that he will never reach the caliber of Sheva, but he still has it in him to get where Pippo is, he needs to be more cold blooded in front of goal though if he wants to achieve this, because as far as goal records go his is better then Pippo's ever has been over his carrier. He just doesn't know how to rise to the big occasions like Pippo does
