So the first matchday of the CL is going to start in...45 minutes. Be interesting to see how the teams do.

Pity, I won't be following the CL like I used to the seasons before. sad.gif It's not just the same for me since the return leg against Arsenal last season. And then, the fifth place finish ruined everything for me.
Portman
Absolute class by Ibrahimovic on Mancini's goal.
Tennie
2 goals for Aguero so far. smile.gif
Portman
Gerrard's first goal was beautiful. Amazing shot.
Zed.D
Barca 2-0 Sporting.

(psst, zd! Rosetti is refereeing PSV-Atletico)

I wish I could see this. not just because of Rosetti, looks like Aguero has set this game on fire.

I missed that scene!

A Carlo-type substitution by Pep: Eto'o out. Toure in!!!
Zed.D
2-1.

Nice goal! come on Sporting, kick blaugrana's ***.
Portman
0-2. Adriano comes in and scores. Top assist by Zlatan.

AS Roma 1 - 2 CFR Cluj

What's wrong with Roma? ohmy.gif
Tennie
Oy. Just saw that. Man, that shouldn't have happened.
Portman
Good start of the season for Roma.
Zed.D
OMG. Adriano scored?!... if there was one coach who could help Adriano revive his career, it was Mourinho. even Adriano said that.

Mourinho is provocative, arrogant, etc. but he is a F magician as well.
Zed.D
How about a trade of coaches between Milan and Roma? rolleyes.gif
kurtsimonw
My God, poor Roma, that's embarassing.

Fox will show it a zillion times, Habitant. smile.gif (assuming you get fox sports world canada where you are)

Aguero did very good..And despite the chelsea trashing, Gourcuff played very well..He's not scared from moving forward or attacking or even making tackles like in Serie A...he's milan's future..I can already see it..He's gonna replace seedorf very soon when he gets back...Forza Gourcuff..

On the real, i marvel at chelsea..They have such tight defense and their offense too is lethal..Anyone can score and everyone can defend..That's wat i want in milan..Kaka and ronaldinho too should defend just as lampard does..Lampard's an attacking midfield but he can also defend well..Everybody needs to help..With milan there's a lot of space..We need to cover up real good..Chelsea plays like there's no more space in the field..overall a good start to the champions league..Although without milan, it doesn't seem right..we'll be back next year

Compared to how Tony Adams came back, Adriano has had a walk in the park.

If you mean Mitch, Jeremy, Carlos and Bobby McMahon, then yes.

I only watch when I'm in a particularly calm mood. Gotta say though that Jeremy was actually really cool about it when I sent in an email explaining how to pronounce the surname 'Legrottaglie'. Didn't expect a thank-you note. So he gets....cookie crumbs at least for that. He'd ge more if he were more clueful on the show.
Habitant
yeah i always thought it was very unprofessional that jeremy made it known that he was glory hunters fc fan... and derek taylor rolleyes.gif has no business being on the show. for those who've never watched it, he is equivalent to a Cletus "the Slack-Jawed Yokel" as football knowledge goes, and is basically informed and taught about the sport as the show progresses. ok fine soccer isnt your sport, well what are you doing on a soccer report show? i guess it isnt his fault...

mitch is ok

and bobby i highlight respect his opinion. for a period of time i only watched the monday and friday editions just to get hear his feedback. he is pretty unbiased, even when analyzing the Scotland/dundee utd. games.
Tennie
+1. I like Bobby too.
Habitant
i also dont get why the show is based in winnipeg huh.gif it isnt one of canada's soccer cities (vancouver, montreal, toronto, etc), let alone a sports city (all they have is the blue bombers, CFL)

Tennie
Isn't Winnipeg...pretty much cowboy country? ie, lots of farms and stuff? and..am I remembering correctly that there's skiing not too far away? The location of the show is a bit surprising, but eh. The anchors are still better than Max Bretos, I think. (For those who don't get the show, Max is the token US correspondent. The other guys are all Canadian except for Bobby, who is Scottish). Max is...well, for him I'd borrow zd's icky puke smiley. he's really and truly awful.

My brother who's a fan of the guy said the same about him after seeing the picture. huh.gif Captains do have that extra burden of managing things, so that might be a factor.

winnipeg which is in the province of manitoba is countryish, i guess you could compare it to the mid-west of the US. the prairies (lots of flat land and farms, so no skiing) are mostly in saskatchewan & alberta, but it must be said alberta love the cowboy lifestyle as well. the skiing you were referring too is in BC and parts of Alberta where the Rockies run through. anyways most of the population in the western parts of canada is along the US border to the south, you can ask blue who lives in regina biggrin.gif

Tennie
Thanks for the map, Habitant! It's embarrassing but I always mix up the order of the provinces between Ontario and British Columbia. I've been to Vancouver and skiing at Banff but, oddly, never to Toronto or Montreal.
kurtsimonw
You think that's embarassing, I haven't even heard of the 3 most northern ones!

hehe ya not much skiing that goes on in monteal nor tin oronto, a;though theres some decent slopes outside the cities.

mont tremblant is about 2 hours north of montreal and is very nice ( obviously you cant compare it to the rockies or the alps, etc) but it's very touristy, like a little city of cabins and cottages it's very nice. i normally go to hills that are closer, 45-60 min away.

FYI if you ever confused the two with a BCer they just might freak out. they have an inferiority complex tongue.gif just because most of the economical political strength resides in ontario and quebec but they feel equally capable and should have a bigger say. just a warning so you dont have your head bitten off.

the three you see to the north are "territories" and not provinces, it's basically all wilderness with some natives (inuits, yeah the people who lived in igloos), and the only reason people lived in Yukon is because of the Klondike gold rush that went on over a hundred years ago.

anyways just my 2 cents on the champions league and all biggrin.gif

Inter

Those are the teams I want to win the CL this season, respectively.

Mourinho hails Euro Inter

Tuesday 16 September, 2008

Jose Mourinho praised Adriano and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but above all Inter's work-rate in Greece.

“The three points were the best part, but I think we played a Champions League style game, especially away from home. It isn't easy and the team had the right character to play for the win,” he said after the 2-0 victory at Panathinaikos.

“The statistics say getting points away from home is key and we always come out to win. There were some difficult moments in the second half, but I think the win was deserved.”

Ibrahimovic set up both goals for Amantino Mancini and substitute Adriano.

“I congratulated Ibra because he worked so hard for the team and a player like him doesn't need to score in order to be decisive. His pass for Adriano was genius.

“I told Adriano to play between the full-back and central defender and that's precisely what he did! It was great movement.”

Mourinho had complained that Roberto Mancini accustomed the side to playing defensively and he was working to transform their overall approach.

“It isn't simple to change the mentality of a team, but today we got the message across.

“The last two seasons Inter had lost the opening game of the Champions League, but I told them we were a better side than Panathinaikos and if we didn't come here at least playing to win, then we had absolutely no place in this competition.

“By introducing Adriano instead of a defender, that also got the message to them. I like attacking teams who always try to win, even away from home, and play with enthusiasm.”

Above all, Mourinho admired the work-rate of his Nerazzurri stars in Athens.

“You cannot ask strikers to defend by running constantly backwards. I ask them that, if they lose the ball, within the next five or six seconds they need to press the opponents to try and get it back. That is do-able and it makes it trickier for counter-attacks.

“I told the side that if Panathinaikos have the chance to go on the counter, that creates problems for Materazzi and Cordoba. They understood that and I am truly happy with the work rate of my squad.”

Roma got off to a dismal start, losing 2-1 at home to Cluj, but Inter are already top of their group after Werder Bremen stalled 0-0 with Anorthosis.

“I didn't expect it, but Roma are better than Cluj, can win in Romania and I'll keep cheering them on so all four Italian teams can go far.”

Channel4

I'm beginning to think this could finally be Inter's year. the only thing they lacked last season was that winning mentality which now thanks to a number of factor, like Calciopoli and Mourinho, it looks to be no more an issue for them... we'll see.
