I'd think talk of team selection (callups and lineups) and stuff of that sort more relevant to the discussion than a praiseathon for the coach's press conference but that's me. smile.gif

Actually my original post was about his decision to play Santon in such an important game. then in the same article on inter.it, I found what he said about Inter's past CL experiences interesting. just as a PS.

Mourinho is going to play Santon:

QUOTE
As for my defence, I can only tell you that Maicon and Davide Santon will play.

This guy's got balls!

Arsenal Boss Wenger Outspoken Over Away Goal Ruling
The Frenchman is no stranger to revolutionary ideas. This time he believes the away goals ruling needs tinkering...

Ahead of Arsenal's hosting of Italian club AS Roma in the first leg of the round of 16 clash in the Champions League, Arsene Wenger has announced his opposition to the current away goal ruling, claiming it is dated.

The Frenchman also added that he has already mooted an alternative option to UEFA, stating that Europe's governing body should take a leaf out of England's League Cup booklet, where away goals only taken into consideration at the end of extra time.

He told journalists prior to the Sunderland stalemate at the weekend, "The [current] rule was created in the 1950s when teams went away from home, with no television, played with ten defenders and kicked every ball into the stand.

"Now I believe that the tactical weight of the away goal has become too important. Teams get a 0-0 draw at home and they’re happy. Instead of having a positive effect it has been pushed too far tactically in the modern game. It has the opposite effect than it was supposed to have at the start; it favours defending well when you play at home."

On the various alternatives available, he said, "We proposed to Uefa at some stage that the away goal should only kick in like it does in the Carling Cup; in extra time. It would still favour the team who plays at home because they play 30 minutes more.

"At the moment when you get 0-0 at home, and then go away, the team who plays against you absolutely has to score. They have to come at you," he concluded.

Wenger also believes that teams should be rewarded for playing with an attacking style, and that points should be given to teams who win games by more than one, two and three goals.

A similar system is currently employed in Arsenal's annual pre-season tournament; the Emirates Cup. Teams are awarded three points for a win, a point for a draw, and then an extra point for every goal scored.

What do you think?

I think hes got a point. When i first heard about it, i thought it was the most stupid and ridiculous rule in football. It basically makes team play so tactically that it takes the fun and spontanteousous out of a football match. Teams would play more risky, not worried that they might lose by .5 of a goal.

If the first game between inter and manu ends lets say 1-0 for manu. Then at old trafford the game ends 2-1 for inter. Instead of going to extra time, inter is granted the win eventhough united deservedly scored 2 goals and so did inter.
Zed.D
Doesn't make much sense to me. if the home side play for a 0-0, the other side play for an away goal. their approaches cancel out each other.

If there wasn't such rule, I think 75% of the games would go to extra time/penalties, which is not a good thing for the players from an athletic pov. it's tiring, risks more injuries. etc etc. plus that finishing the group winners and playing the second leg at home wouldn't be a positive thing anymore.

Of course I could be wrong, but I like it how it is now.

What would be wrong about that? Inter managed to score more away goals...

+1

I think every team should be allowed to play the way they want to play, You can't make them play attacking football by changing the rules.
QUOTE

This statement is stupid.

Edit: I hope Manchester United wins against Inter tonight.
Nova
oh how i wish that merda get eliminated ... the face of mourinho then smile.gif
Fillipo Simone
Okay, Rivas infront of Ivan Cordoba who's on the bench...EXPLANATION?

Away goals is the stupidest rule in football, I do't see how it's at all fair. Just carry on playing and have a penalty shoot-out, at least that is fair.

The United-Inter game is such a win/win, I can't be disappointed with any outcome.
Il Capitano
Amazing FK by Juninho, shows why he is the best in the world. Lyon 1-0 Barca.
kurtsimonw
Atletico 1-1 Porto after half an hour. Maxi opened the scoring, Lopez equalised. Lyon lead Barca 1-0 as Il Capitano said. The 2 England vs Italy games are currently 0-0.
Darunia
Arsenal leads 1-0 due to a PK by Van Persie

Very dominating, yes. smile.gif And the only reason they are not leading is called: Julio Cesar! Made 4 top class saves, and another couple of regular ones. inter could probably have been two goals down.

adriano should have scored

and imo that penelty call should have been given

Unbelievably bad 1st half for Inter.

They've started the 2nd half much better. I wonder what happened in the dressing room!

Ronaldo just doesn't have good luck against Italian defenders. Oddo used to own him too (both club and NT level). Santon looks to be a very good young talent. (Now I have to go wash my mouth out with soap. I just said something nice about a cugini player).
