Seen those given, does flick up off his leg first, possibly the only saving grace. Definitely seen them given though.

What a game!

You're too easy to wind-up when it comes to United, I have a new hobby tongue.gif

It's not about being wound up, I just hate it when teams like United are handed a game over a silver platter. In all reality City would have won this should they had 11 men for the 90 minutes, United have just been that bad lately.

I didn't watch the second half but I'm glad that City showed what they're made of and made it as hard as possible on United. They played with 10 men for 80 minutes yet they still nearly got away with it. Too bad the game was ruined

Amazing that people think 2 footed lunges with stoods showing is an acceptable way to try and win the ball. Fortunate sense was showed and crazy 'tackles' like this are being punished strongly now before players end up having their careers ended by them, or years out with injury.

Amazing that we see players getting straight reds for doing this 99.99% of the time... innocent.gif innocent.gif

In other news Downing been arrested after allegedly hitting his ex-girlfriend. To think we got £20m for this peice of ****. laugh.gif

No doubt Liverpool will defend him as beating up women is acceptable in Middlesbrough.

Tackles like that rarely happen because most players know the rules. Fortunately they're red cards when they do happen.

I can name a handful of challenges like that but were even worse because they actually took the player and not the ball off the top of my head and none of those resulted in straight reds. One of those being committed by our very own Flamini against Spurs in the CL last season. That was a million times worse than this one and that was a yellow.

Nah, simply put you have a hatred of United. I'm not saying you shouldn't, that's your opinion, that's for you to decide. Though it's becoming glaringly obvious you do, either that or you just want United to fail so miserably this whole season just so you can continue to say "Well, I told you so, I told you so".

You seem to put it across as fact, as oppose an opinion that City would have won, even though United were 1-0 up at the time. Factual evidence concludes United come back after disappointments, especially in big games over the past couple of decades under the guidance of Ferguson for a start. Though, obviously City are a far more stern test nowadays due to their financial powers.

They had 2 bad games, against Blackburn they were pretty unlucky, Newcastle they were completely outplayed. City were also without a big, big piece of their make-up in Yaya Toure, who whilst not as glamorous and flashy as Silva, Aguero, Balotelli etc plays a big part in underlining City's success of recent times.

United had a stone-wall penalty at 3-1, which would have given a great opportunity to make it 4-1 and put it to bed too. So in some ways the 3-2 scoreline is just as deceiving in favour of City and them "nearly getting away with it".

The end of the day the red-card is right to the letter of the law. It can't really be denied, the thing is there are plenty of us in our lifetimes who used to see this happen 4/5 times a game and it wasn't even a foul, let alone a red-card. I'm 22, and I've seen that development, so it's not something 50/60 year olds alone can talk about.

It's just modern football I'm afraid, these sort of tackles are being outlawed, and it will be a trend of sending-offs for these sorts of offences. I've seen it happen a number of times in the past few years in England, resulting in red cards, just as it's United it gets blown up out of proportion. I mean do you judge the severity of the tackle by the resulting injury? As that's where it's getting to a little with this debate.
han2503
I've seen them not given on most occasions. And didn't City also have a stone wall penalty not given?

My arguments at the beginning of the season weren't really related to United's domestic strength, more in terms of how they will hold up in Europe, since a lot here said that the gap between them and Barca wasn't that large, while I always said that it was Barca, gap, Real, huge gap, Man U. That's always been my oppinion.

Domestically I really though they would still be the team to beat and I still believe that, even if City are first atm. I just hate that the game was ruined even if you and kurt say that it's the rules etc, etc. If they really want to enforce this then enforce it completely not every one in a while

United got Liverpool away, big tie again.

Villa potentially Arsenal away, if they beat Leeds.

Seen them given category, yes, but if we are solely saying Kompany's sending-off changed the whole game, then had that penalty been given surely that would have killed the game off too? See what I mean about all these if's, but's and maybe's?

Ah ok, just I remembered debating earlier in the season about them beating Arsenal & Chelsea, and after City beating them I thought we had a similar discussion, maybe I'm going senile biggrin.gif

I agree with the last bit completely.

I see them given a lot and when they aren't given refs are criticised for not protecting the players.

Yes, City did have a stone wall penalty turned down, but as did United, so they're cancelled out.

Two footed. Off the ground. Studs showing. Fair enough if you think the rule is inconsistant as some players don't get sent off, but that doesn't change that players should be sent off for it.

Yeah it came up around that time because everyone was gushing about United. But I don't remember it being so much about how strong they are domestically, but how they'll do against big teams who would target their soft center tongue.gif

But they still beat Chelsea & Arsenal comfortably, who are hardly bad sides either. I'm just going to give up I think though, our opinions are too far apart and we're just repeating the same stuff over & over.

No idea what to think of the signing to be honest, especially with it being a short-term loan.

It was inevitable really, he scored the goal, something that I couldn't see Arsenal doing anytime soon with the players they had on the pitch
kurtsimonw
So 3 of Leeds back 4 playing superb for 90 minutes means nothing because Henry had a few touches? O'Dea should've got MotM without a doubt.

The many dreams of Robbie Keane

I don't see much wrong with the quotes there to be honest. The only one that is remotely 'bad' is saying he's always wanted to play in the MLS. Though that is likely to endear himself to the fans rather than him saying "LOOK AT ALL OF THIS MONEYS I NOW HAZ!" Much like with Eto'o and Anzhi. biggrin.gif
Milan Are Brilliant
Actually, he may have said he was a fan of Celtic, same with Liverpool.

1880s maybe!

Yeah we won the league in '81 and the European Cup in '82. We decided it'd be best to sell everyone after that though and become average. Because we are happier when we have something to moan about than when we're successful.

Yep, boyhood fan of Liverpool, which then turned to Celtic, and then he says it's a dream come true to play in the MLS.

The guy just has zero credibility. Thankfully he's a very good player to make up for that, though, even more thankfully he didn't show much of that ability at Celtic.

FA Cup, League Cup and Wigan/Wolves to go down are still alive at the moment. Chelsea to win the league and Swansea to go down look unlikely.

Nobody picked City to win the league!?

I'm not seeing an issue here. Like I said, if I joined Villa I'd say I was a fan. If I then joined Milan I'd say I was a fan. I'm not lying. It's very common for the Irish to support Celtic and it's just as common for them to also follow United/Liverpool. I don't know how long you've been following Milan, but wouldn't you say the same about Rangers/Milan? I personally don't like Robbie Keane much, but I think the Liverpool/Celtic criticism is a bit much.

I do agree that his talk about the MLS being a dream come true is a load of rubbish though. It would've been more realistic had he said he's always wanted to live in a city like Los Angeles.

I've never known any kids to be genuine fans of more than one team.

You develop a second team in your later years - I don't recall a single child under the age of 15 ever supporting a second club team.

Indeed, the only example I can remember of a second team was a friend who supported Celtic from birth, pretty much, then in his late teens began on Liverpool (coincidence eh).

If he'd called himself a boyhood fan of Liverpool it would have been stretching the truth to extremes.

If I joined Milan I'd call myself a fan, but not a boyhood fan.

I've followed Milan since before Sheva. I was 24 September just gone. You do the math on that one. (Ash is younger than me and also followed because of Sheva, I think).

I think you also need to take into account he lives in Ireland. The most followed league in Ireland, I would imagine is the EPL (Liverpool were the big club when he grew up) and it wouldnt surprise me if Celtic were the most supported club in Ireland, for obvious reasons.
