The people on Sky Sports are saying "Sources from Milan are saying.." so I'm assuming the news has been leaked by somebody in the club, or they have somebody in Milan that has been told by the club.

Hopefully he fails the medical.

If it's not on the website, it's not good enough for me. What if someone leaked the wrong information?

This is actually embarassing..

The fact that Wenger sold him to us speaks volumes about how crap he is. It's public knowledge that he doesn't like us, and would be unlikely to sell us players. But he went along with this since we're doing him a favour. dry.gif

It was a loan deal, allegedly.

MilanChannel doesn't usually get things too wrong - Suazo case notwithstanding. As for loan, I think it's a loan-with-purchase sort of thing. Hopefully this is another Suazo thing and everyone's wrong. My coworker is already mocking me.

he has potential and perhaps a slightly slower paced game may suit him (yes i'm clutching at straws!) he's not a starter for sure so as back up not bad but thats about it wink.gif
Giancarlo
I think maybe he'll do fine in Italy, but I'm not one to take risks like this... lets hope they know what they are doing if this is true. Or I hope this will fall apart like the Suazo transfer.

Well, you (people) are worrying too much IMO. it's a loan deal; a short-term whitewashing till Maldini retires and we get a real CB. even I, usually pessimistic about Milan's moves and plans, am not worried or upset about Senderos' arrival. I'm completely aware that we could've gotten a better CB compared to him... but I think we want to wait one more season and get a real good one instead.
gal_kenny
Its a loan deal with the option to buy him at the end of the season depending on how he performs..

I'm going to agree with you here.

Even if we do get Senderos, I think this has been a superb transfer season which saw our team almost completely reshuffled. I think we need to find an experienced defender. Senderos, like it or not, does have some experience... he probably will do better in the Serie A I think... he'll probably not play all that much...

Not only that our defenders are far more experienced than any of Arsenal's defenders... so this will be a time for him to gain experience.

But as I said before... I don't like projects. AC Milan isn't Arsenal.
armiss
And something from his past against us , maybe we thought that we will make him OUR NEW STAM :

Player Ratings: AC Milan 0-2 Arsenal

Senderos - 7.0: Sound display from the supposed weak-link of the Arsenal team. Barely put a foot wrong
. Should have scored at the beginning of the second half when he fired straight at Kalac.

That's just one game.

My concern is whether he can be consistent.
armiss
I didnt defend him , we all know him as we know Kaladze but we must wait . certainly there is something to worry but do you know other way ? we did it .

if Luisao was really a better option our management were not blind .

Just been speaking to a Gooner friend of mine and he said " to be fair he isn't as bad a people make out, he hasn't had a good run in the side and he's a confidence player he reads the game well and the pace in Italy will should suit his game better" from a man who is a season ticket holder at the emirates

It's hard to recall a better centre-half performance from last season than Philippe's display against Milan in the Champions League.

The Swiss defender tends to be judged on his rare mistakes but he was outstanding after replacing the injured Kolo Toure after seven minutes of the first leg against the reigning European champions. Philippe snuffed out the threat of Kaka, Alexandre Pato and company before repeating the trick in the San Siro 13 days later.

Philippe's tenacity, aerial power and will to win are valuable assets. Also he tends to thrive when he gets a run in the side. That was certainly the case at the start of last season when William Gallas was unavailable and Philippe contributed to six clean sheets in his first eight games. He made 31 appearances in total during the 2007/08 campaign and popped up with a couple of goals too.

It's easy to forget that Philippe is still a young player because he seems to have been around for a while, not just at Arsenal but at international level too. He was part of the Swiss defence which did not concede a goal at the 2006 World Cup and played every minute of his country's campaign at Euro 2008.

senderos isn't crap so please people stop saying he is. Ofcourse in arsenal and the premiership where the pace is high the defenders are inexperienced and its all about kick and run, hes gonna look worst than kaladze. Wait till he adapts here and see how he really plays. Trust me and i believe that the decision came down to carlo and he chose senderos. 5 mil for kovac is nothing but hes 28 and senderos is 23, besides the fact is that if we do improve him and find his hidden potential we just signed a defender for the years to come.

So much negativity over one poor season....sigh

i just think "crap" is a little to strong thats all, i believe he could be a decent signing and thats why a loan deal is in place to see if he can realize his potental could be a shrewd bit of buisness
Tennie
Sorry guys - and I hope I'm wrong - but I don't particularly rate Senderos and think he was a laughably poor signing for Milan. He's slow and his positional sense doesn't seem to be all that good. I would prefer to see a young and inexperienced Darmian than this guy.

Again, that's how I see it. Hope I'm wrong about Senderos.

We forget his age

I'm only 20. Why didn't Milan sign me instead, I'm even younger!
Giancarlo
I think I will give Senderos a chance... he has played for his country in the 2006 World Cup and throughout the Euro 2008. I think he did not match the pace of the EPL. And other than some mistakes (take into account he doesn't match the pace of the Premier League), he's an otherwise solid defender.

He may be more suited for the pace of the Italian league. Remember there are many players that perform greatly in the Serie A, but absolutely bomb in the Premier League... Shevchenko being one of them. Not that I'm comparing... Sheva does have a massive track record in the Serie A...

I think it may have been a gamble, but there is the potential it could pay off. You never know.

I'd still prefer Kovac. Yes, he's older... but he's a very established, reliable defender. Cheap too.
CrazyMilanFan
all of us wil slowly give him a chance bcoz milan has signed him

[Monsters stats post on Senderos!]

For anybody interested, here's the games he played last season and the stats I've came up with based on them. (I know stats don't prove everything, but I like to use them as a good indicator).

Games Senderos played in England last season

Blackburn 1-1 Arsenal
Arsenal 3-1 Portsmouth
Arsenal 5-0 Derby
Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle (LC)
West Ham 0-1 Arsenal
Arsenal 3-2 Sunderland
Blackburn 2-3 Arsenal
Burnley 0-2 Arsenal (FA)
Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham (LC)
Arsenal 1-1 Birmingham
Fulham 0-3 Arsenal
Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle (FA)
Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle
Man City 1-3 Arsenal
Arsenal 2-0 Blackburn
Man Utd 4-0 Arsenal (FA)
Birmingham 2-2 Arsenal
Arsenal 1-1 Aston Villa
Wigan 0-0 Arsenal
Arsenal 1-1 Middlesbro
Bolton 2-3 Arsenal
Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool
Liverpool 4-2 Arsenal
Arsenal 1-0 Everton
Sunderland 0-1 Arsenal

Played: 25
Games played vs:
Outside of top 10 teams: 14
Goals conceeded: 9 (0.6 per game)
Big 4: 3
Goals conceeded: 9 (3 per game)
Others:8
Goals conceeded: 7 (0.9 per game)

-Against poor teams he tends to do okay, with only conceeding 0.6 goals per game.
-Against the very top teams, he can't cope, 3 goals per game is not at all good.
-Against top half teams he conceeded on average about 1 goal per game, which is a little worrying.

Overall:
Won: 15
Drew: 8
Lost: 2
Goals scored when he plays: 48 (1.92 goals per game)
Goals by Senderos: 2
Own goals by Senderos: 1
Conceeded: 24 (0.96 per game)

-When Senderos plays, they win alot of games, and rarely lose. But 15 wins isn't alot when you consider that he played against teams outside of the top ten 14 times!
-His win % will be increased since he has help from Arsenals front men who score nearly 2 goals per game.
-He scored 2 goals, which is okay, but a very poor own goal (For Villa! biggrin.gif)

Clean sheets: 11
Outside of top 10 teams: 8 (in 14 games)
Big 4: 0 (in 3 games)
Others: 3 (in 8 games)
None clean sheets: 14
Outside of top 10 teams: 6 (in 14 games)
Big 4: 3 (in 3 games)
Others: 5 (in 8 games)

-He conceededs goals ib games more often than not.
-Nearly 75% of his clean sheets were against teams outside of the top 10, only 3 clean sheets in 11 games against teams in the top half.

So Overall.. He's a decent defender for Cup games vs lower league opposition or against the very poor teams in the league. But play him against a top half team and you're likely to conceed. So for me.. A Coppa Italia/resting first teamer vs relegation battle teams. Good enough for #4/5 CB, no more than that.

Hope some of you guys find it interesting.. I just personally like to use stats in football, I always find them interesting to see how teams fair with certain people, etc. Thanks alot if you've took your time to read any of it. tongue.gif

ohmy.gif Gosh. Thanks for all that, Kurt!

The fish doll gives you a biscuit and some Irn Bru for your efforts. That's a lot of info to have dug up. Well done!
Giancarlo
He's not the only defender in the Arsenal team... I don't recall them playing only with Senderos in the back. I can't believe I'm defending the guy. I'm sure we will use him for lower ranked teams anyways...

Besides that I'm sure his stats would improve in the Serie A, which is different than the Premier League.

Thanks for that kurt king.gif . I think he's pretty decent to have as a sub and playing next to Nesta might be beneficial for him. Who knows... he's still really young so there is room for improvement. And our players mostly make mistakes against the smaller teams because of lack of conetration, so it would be good to have someone that performs in these 'smaller' games, if you want to call them that, because at the end of the season you still have to win these games to win the league
mishie
top work kurt!!! as i said i don't believe he will be a starter and maybe will devolp into a Milan class player
gal_kenny
Senderos would turn out to be a decent signing..Remember when Alex ferguson sold Jaap Stam..what did he say? he said he regretted selling him to milan and he said Stam was one of the best defenders of all time...Stam wasn't all dat before...was prob a lil bit better than senderos when he was at Senderos' age..All i'm saying is lets give him a chance..he could really turn out to be very very solid...Plus he'll get coaching in milan..When Bonera came he wasn't as good as he is now..Players change except for Brocchi biggrin.gif...But ya'll get my point..He has every tendency to be a very good defender and he's pretty good in the air..Our defenders hardly score from set pieces...
Tennie
The fish doll crosses fins! (Calamity is on his fantasy team).

thanx for the whole profile kurt
armiss
Very good work Kurt !! as i said i cant judge him completely specified good or bad , he had many mistakes in very young age as a CB in EPL for Arsenal ( each of them have too much pressure along ) and also he had some good but middle works . in his new team there are another factors so it is a little too soon for us to send him out and ignor our managers choice .
kurtsimonw
I don't rate him highly as a player, and I think he'll struggle against clever strikers because he's hardly the smartest footballer in the World. But as long as he wears the red and black I'll get behind him when he's on the field.

Gee, Kurt. Did you get paid to research and write all that? cool.gif Job well done, mate.

Anyway, I don't know about you guys, neither how Senderos will develop, but I'd sure like a Kovac to go with him. unsure.gif I know it's not popular opinion, but maybe sell Brocchi for 4m or so, and make a scoop for him at 5m. Would make everything complete, as we'll be covered in all positions.

I'd rather see us making a direct swap with Lazio for Standardo. Senderos is younger and he has made his fare share of blunder while playing in a top league, while Kovac has never played in a top league and I hear he's not all the great, not to mention Senderos is younger and coming on loan so if he doesn't make it we can send him on his way easily.

Getting Standardo would offer us another option at CB not to mention a physical player that has Serie A esperiance. Plus it comes with the added bonus of getting rid of Brocchi
acid911
Okay, Standardo it is then. smile.gif Particularly if it includes getting rid of our number 32 (I already see him taking place of our Uruguayan friends through the season). Anyone really, because our midfield is filled to the neck, or attack has taken some semblance of a shape, but our central defense could use a couple of more signings so as us not to come back after a year giving it as an excuse of finishing 2nd.

Anyone would do really, a CB that has potential. That and then a young goalkeeper (but that's too much to ask after what we've been given by Galliani). biggrin.gif Senderos seems a step in the right direction, we'll have to wait and see how it pays off, but I'd get another low-cost CB option just to be on the safe side of things.

I don't know if we really need another CB..Darmian is very very very good for a young lad...He ain't scared of nothing..I'll rather use Darmian than to bring another defender...tis would be waste of money on an ordinary CB..prob wouldn't even get a chance to play...
