I don't even care about the Allegri thing, I'm just so F'ing happy we won!

I think it was a combination of pure commitment from the players + spot on tactics from Allegri

Anyone got the match stats? I don't remember Abbiati making any saves apart from the routine ones. Barca really did nothing.

If we actually go through this tie I think we have a shot here

CALM DOWN! We've beaten, in the first leg, a side with no Plan B. We got our tactics nailed on as I preached for weeks leading up to this. But it's a different story against a team like Bayern etc.

But who gives a f*ck. We beat those c*nts and Messi was utter w*nk!

Barca had 0 shots on target the whole night.

Ambro... top game especially in the 2nd half. Fillipo was right.

Muntari undid all the crap with that goal, but sadly for us, probably guaranteed a starting spot until the end of the season. dry.gif

Ambro did precisely what I said he had to.

Basically, Allegri listened to every word I said and set out the plan.

I should manage Milan.

not sure about the Allegri love on here all of a sudden! there is only 1 way to play against Barca some times it works ie tonight and Chelsea last year, sometimes it doesn't ie nearly every other game this season.

I cant believe how good we played.. Everyone played extremely well. Monto as the MOTM for me, he just completely dominated the midfield. He looked cool and collected and won back possession plenty of times. He has exceeded my expectations of him which were already pretty high. Ambro played great, Abate, Constant tracks players very well although he sometimes tried to do too much. Mexes stepped up. That goal did wonders for Prince, he looked very confident after his finish. El Sha with some nice composure on that pass. Allegri nailed it. This one will be remembered for a long time, especially considering we were severe underdogs.

Well as flippant as your comment is, bear in mind Inter play tomorrow - an away fixture in Romania - one day less to recover than us plus all the additional travel. But an easier match.

So neither club will have an advantage going into the derby.

I'm hoping this will give them a huge push

We seriously cannot afford to lose our cool in the league because we won against Barca. CL spot is still the number 1 priority

I'm sure Balo will be raring to go against Inter. Hopefully we'll have Flamini and Nocerino available as well. If Inter play as badly as they did against Fiorentina then there shouldn't really be any excuses

But remember one goal from us and they need 4. They need 2 as it is to merely force extra time.

And tonight they DID go all out but our tactics stopped them. As I knew they could if we got said tactics right.
han2503
The players tonight have once again made me proud of being a fan of this great club. Forget the BS we've been through, the performances of some of the players seriously made me feel that emotion that I haven't felt in a while for this team.

Abate, Mexes, Ambro, Monto, Prince, SES, Pazzini. These guys especially worked their @sses of all game long. It was just amazing to watch them give everything for the shirt and I seriously hope that they carry this onto the rest of the season

Hey, I wonder who was the most optimistic before the game?! happy.gif I'd almost bet money on Milan at 5.33, had a strong, strong hunch we will win. Or at worst draw 1-1. And to think folks here were talking about a thrashing. There is a distinct and visible difference in age between both teams, and that played in our favor.

Even Messi is an old geyser compared to some of the players we have wearing our shirt. FACT.
Danny
Love the result. Incredibly disappointed that a couple of fans who kept slagging my opinion off before this match on here can't even just say they were wrong for once!

I didn't know it was about ego.

Let's not get carried away, there's still another leg to play and I'm not sure we can quite survive that one. remember how we almost threw away a 4-0 lead against Arsenal? we had a better team overall and Arsenal were nowhere near this Barca.

I back down slightly because you did agree on that one part, but you didn't agree on the lineup wink.gif

Told you it wasn't about that - it was about the tactics.

Even when players were subbed, their replacements did exactly what they'd done - followed the system and tactics.

Still can't get over how good Monto was. Total behemoth. His tackling, vision, work rate - better than anything I have ever seen from Pirlo.

Monto V Barca was what Pirlo couldn't be V Spain.

Staggering display and maybe the match of his life?

True and just. laugh.gif I've been pretty optimistic in most matches (even thought we'd get through United when Ronaldinho was here, scored early, and Huntelaar missed a shot by as whisker), but tonight I was extra confident. Maybe it was because I know the shine has come off of this Barcelona or something else.

Surely, mad props to Allegri for the right tactics and selection, plus the players for putting in a masterclass in defense. I will not talk about the goals, because good as they were, we'd be nowhere without the watertight defense. wink.gif In fact, Abbiati did not even have to make a semblance of a save the whole 90 minutes. Top drawer, stuff.

QUOTE (Danny @ Feb 21 2013, 04:10 AM) *
I hate Messi

Welcome to the club, man. king.gif Any good player would have been troubled by the show we put up, save for past legends. But there's a reason they are legends, and there's a reason they are past. What Messi did (or did not do) tonight, any of the top player could have put in, I've seen CRON so helpless in the year gone by, Ibra, and more.

But to think he did not even get a decent shot on target. Still, it's going to be tough in Spain, tougher in Spain.
Fillipo Simone

And he did it again. That's why we keep him, that's why we should next year as well. Captained this match through like in the old days, when Rino, Andy and him were a unit.

Praise for all our guys out tonight, and especially Allegri. When he concentrates, he can make a good tactical gameplan.

Now once again the big question pops up - has he learned something from last year? Milan under Allegri have a nasty habit of preemptively starting to feel cosy and drop guard. Just remember Arsenal. This is Barcelona and we'll be more concentrated, sure. But we need a new tactical gameplan and strategy for Camp Nou. Hopefully Allegri makes the second step forward. Hopefully.

If we employ the same tactics and with Nocerino there instead of Muntari, why not?It sure is easier said than done but I hope we keep our composure and get through this thing!

Class. cool.gif I've always put Aquilani above Montolivo in terms of attacking play, through balls, and setting up of goals, but Montolivo did everything that was expected of him from the back seat with pristine perfection. I still maintain if we had a quality AM (heck, even Aquilani as a bar minimum upfront), we'd be almost scoring goals at will.

Agreed. There's a saying that 2-0 is a dangerous lead, because it's difficult to know how to play. I really hope we can put Barca out, the team will have such belief in themselves.

Exactly.

I've been saying over and over that I don't miss Pirlo one bit because of Monto. especially in our games vs Juve Pirlo has always been anonymous whereas Monto has shined. and this is coming from someone who always believed Monto was average (before Euro 2012 at least).

I think you're exaggerating a bit on Pirlo. He's had massive games in his career both for Milan and Italy and now wit Juve as well in his 30s.

Monto is more of a physical player.

One thing I'm actually seeing a pattern with him on is his big match performances. He played like this as well when he faced Juve. I wonder why he never played like this against big sides for Fiorentina...

As for your previous posts, yes I didn't agree with you about the line-up and I still think we could have done even better with Flamini instead of Muntari. But then again it's a double-edged sword considering he scored. But at least my heart could have done better without the heart stopping moments due to his ridiculous back passes and passes straight to the Barca players. Sometimes you seriously have to wonder if he uses his brain at all.

Ambro rolled back the years tonight as well in that second half. But I want him kept wrapped in cotton until that 2nd leg. We don't need him in the league and I seriously question whether he can even play in the league within 3 days at this point
X-Offender
OMFG!!! I can't believe we won! I'm still incredulous about it. We completely shut them down, they had all the possession but 0 shots on target! Never seen such a ridiculous Barcelona in ages, and all the merit goes to our boys. They fought like lions, never backing down for the whole 90 minutes. Allegri completely owned their coach. We did a Chelsea on them, but like 10 times better. Everyone was amazing, even frigging Muntari got his sh!t together in the second half. Montolivo and Boateng stepped up and played like world-class players. Ambro once again proved me wrong and repeated last season's performance. Mexes was a rock in defense, and Abate proved wrong everyone who don't rate him enough. El Shaarawy was rather shaky, but his defensive work was immense and he gave the assist for the second. Two goals is a huge advantage, and hopefully we don't throw it away in the 2nd leg.

I'm so happy right now! FORZA MILAN!!! devilsmiley.gif

Massimo Ambrosini warns Milan would be “making a terrible mistake” if they thought the 2-0 victory was enough to eliminate Barcelona.

“It was a game we had to play like this,” he said of the defensive approach at San Siro.

“We were very careful and allowed Barça very little. It is only the first half of the tie, as going there thinking we’ve done something definitive would be a terrible mistake.

“It was a great achievement, but we have to consider the 180 minutes. We’ll enjoy this evening, then think about the Derby.

“Of course if we had lost 3-0 then we’d have less chance of qualifying, so naturally we have a chance.”

The captain had a particular dedication to make after this remarkable 2-0 victory.

“I dedicate the win to all of us for the year we’ve had and our start to the season.”

Wise words from the captain.
