I probably wouldn't put Pele in the top 100. Not his fault he played at a time where International football was a joke and there was only about 10 nations who were half decent, it is his fault that he never went to Europe though. Probably a good thing, even a 3rd division Villa beat a Santon with Pele in the team!

I think it's all relative anyway. Would Pele at his peak even be any good in todays game? Defending has come on an incredible amount even from the 90s and 80s, so I just don't think he'd be all that. Players today are far superior than previous generations, which is why it's so hard to compare.

They did not do that well in most places in Europe, even Greece...

I think Pele now would be Robinho.

I don't think he'd be close to being that good.

More to do with 'vintage' perhaps?

So El Classico time again? Any takers? I think this time Madrid have got an edge. Barca have it would seem lost their edge. The enforced coaching change would not have helped of course.

I generally lose interest after the first 20 of the season.

I'll watch it for the drama and to keep tabs on how Barca are doing

+1, it's got like Celtic-Rangers.

The last game was pretty exciting, no reason not to watch this.

This match-up has been disappointing too many times recently. I will (try) not (to) watch it.
kurtsimonw
I have Aberdeen-Ross County on.

Ooh, exciting!

Penalty for Madrid!

0-1, Ronaldo.

Even though I can't stand Madrid, I want them to pass tonight for some reason.
han2503
Yes!

Get in. 0-1 Ronaldo
kurtsimonw
Down the other end, that's a red card.

I suppose Cesc won't be booked for that dive either.
Zed.D
Not that there was no contact, but Ronaldo won it smartly. he just elevated the diving to the level of art.

I'm rooting for Madrid too. GO RONALDO!

Gee, it was not penalty but someone pushed him. how's that yellow for diving?

It was a joke. tongue.gif

The weekends Clasico will be the 16th in 22 months. That's stupid.
kurtsimonw
Why did Pedro start to fall early then? Had he stayed up and waited for the contact it would've 100% been a penalty.
X-Offender
Jeez, the Barça players are such cheaters. Diving everywhere.
Jack Bauer
The key from this game for me is that another game that Barca conceded, IIRC it happened in almost every game in the last two month. If we manage to score at Camp Nou, they will need to score at least 4.
Zed.D
That's what we used to say before the return Arsenal game. "if we score 1 they will have to score 6". and look what happened. they score the first and bam, we lose all confidence.
kurtsimonw
Jordi Alba... Jeez. What a shocking dive.
han2503
LOOL

@ Jordi Alba, doesn't even know where he's hurt laugh.gif

At the weekend they said it's their longest streak with conceded since the 90s.

Agreed.

We simply have to put scoring out of our heads. It shouldn't even be a blip on the players' radars. We need to play it exactly like we did at home. THEY need to score NOT US. We need to keep things super tight and should the opportunity present itself then we try to take it. If not then we must keep our shape at all costs

+1

But we shouldn't go there only thinking of defending for the whole 90 minutes. Anyway, the team against Arsenal acted very superficial in the first half, because of our huge lead and because, well, it was Arsenal. Against Barça it's another story.

VIVA RONALDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Zed.D
Barca are so vulnerable on the counter attacks. I'm beginning to think that we can actually knock them out!
kurtsimonw
8 goals in his last 6 games at the Camp Nou. Messi yet again annonymous in a big game. Would forgive people for not realising he's playing tonight and vs Milan the other night.
X-Offender
0-3!
kurtsimonw
VARANNNNE!
Zed.D
Loving it. hope Barca's demise also means Spain's demise. sick of both team's dominance.

Funny. One of the best refereeing performances I've seen in a while and Barca can't cope. tongue.gif wink.gif
X-Offender
LOL Pepe, falling like an idiot. laugh.gif
kurtsimonw
Pepe. laugh.gif Clown.
Zed.D
I think after winning so much (both Barca and Messi), this had to happen. we and Madrid showed the world how it can be done (OK Danny, Rangers were first...). I'm looking forward to more games like this.

-

My God, Pepe... someone put him in a cage.
kurtsimonw
Varane-Ramos partnership works really well. Pepe should be a sub from now on.
kurtsimonw
That's how you do it Farca, when you get into the box DON'T dive.
kurtsimonw
So glad I tuned in. What's happened to Messi in big games? 1st leg nothing. Milan game, nothing. Tonight, nothing.
X-Offender
Yeah, he's been a ghost in these last two important games. In fact, Barça have been terrible as a whole.
Zed.D
I wonder whether it's Messi who's suffering from Barca's bad form or the other way around.
han2503

I think it's both

Xavi has been bad, Cesc even worse, the entire defensive line is a joke

The only guy still playing like before is Iniesta but the others are not on the same wavelength that made them so great before
han2503
Also think the fact that they're basically being lead by the assistant to the assistant is weighing on them. They miss their coach as well, even if some who like to overhype them say they can function without one it's clearly having an effect on them that Tito is not there
kurtsimonw
I watched their game at the weekend with Sevilla. First half was really shocking. They improved in the 2nd half, but Sevilla didn't look too threatened for the most part.

Defend as a team and counter, they don't seem to have much of an answer for it lately.
X-Offender

kurtsimonw
Apparently Ronaldo's the 1st ever player to score in 6 consecutive appearances at the Nou Camp, that's very surprising. I must be misunderstanding or only heard half the story or something, surely Messi's done it at some point?
acid911
Sarcasm? huh.gif If not, then this most probably takes into account visiting teams only? Opponents! biggrin.gif tongue.gif
