I'll never understand football on the mainland. Why not let the coach decide who he wants? Surely that works better!

They are selling Di Maria it seems, so in his place.

Could argue Cristiano too, I mean if it doesn't happen this year it's likely going to happen next.
X-Offender
Can Bale play on the right, though?
Jack Bauer
He can play in any attacking role (was playing AM at Spurs most of the time recently). Plus, you can always put CR on the right, doesn't matter to him which wing.
Fillipo Simone
Yeah, he's doing the same for Wales.

Well for RM, they bought enough players that can play football but don't sell jerseys, now it seems they might go back to buying the flashy ones, even if it does not make sense to do so.

So, according to The Times, Madrid are ready to offer €45 million for Suarez and... €100 million for Bale!

I swear, if it really happens, then it truly is the end of football.
William405
Madrid are insane.
kurtsimonw
And they'll still probably meet FFP, with ease. laugh.gif

Kiss goodbye to that as PSG/Monaco are doing it now Platini will be fine with it.
milanbuf88
They can probably make half of that back with a few player sales.

Good point. He was ranting about it when City were taken over, has he been doing that much in regards to PSG/Monaco yet?

And to think they will continue to under achieve in CL happy.gif let them do whatever they want. without some serious stability, they can't do **** in CL.

That aside, seeing Suarez and Pepe in the same team would be... amusing.

They've had stability recently and done very well, so it's not all bad. Only 1 team has really been better than them.

They just fired their coach, and are going to replace some of their regular players. there goes any real stability that they had.

Sometimes a few changes are needed.

Otherwise by that logic the Premier League should be a straight fight between Arsenal and Liverpool.

Typical Madrid. That's why I dislike them just as much as Barcelona.

I don't have any interest in the Spanish League .. As a neutral I like the football Barcelona play. But that is about it.

There are no underdogs in that league anymore, which is obvious as first and second are very much taken up and all the other teams have to do is play for safety and maybe Europe.

Unless their football gets proper regulations ala the EPL or the Bundesliga, I believe he will continue to dislike them tongue.gif
kurtsimonw
Yeah, La Liga is crap. Mourinho is my favourite coach and I had some interest while he was there. Now I really don't care. The defending in the league is laughable and will be exploited by organised teams, as you saw in the CL SFs.

So Neymar for £49m? It really frustrates me how they sign all these flashy names for massive money, when will Madrid stop.......

Not to mention Barca have the highest wage bill in football (or did last time I checked, that was 18 months or so ago).
Fillipo Simone
Who cares, at some point this gotta bounce back. And exactly that moment can be Milans great moment to step up again.

I'm especially happy Barcelona and Real decided to splash money on relatively bad investements (at least if you ask me).

Problem with Madrid is they're resources are so large that they could spend £100m+ on transfers a year without the worry of breaking FFP rules. Barca on the other hand are more likely to struggle aas I believe they made losses quite often. After the bad signings of Alexis, Cesc and Alba, lets hope Neymar is another.

Cristiano tweeting Madrid renewal talks are false - it's an odd public declaration and one that again indicates he does want out sooner, rather than later. Unless he's about to claim his official account was hacked.

Now will it be the £££ of Monaco or the love of United (and he's hardly going to get short-changed there either)?

Maybe Messi should go to Monaco. Obviously being the highest paid footballer isn't enough and the lower taxes in Monaco mean he won't need to allegedly commit tax fraud.

Why would he want to leave Madrid? He's playing in (one of) the most successful and popular club(s) in the world, and gets paid shitloads of money.

I don't understand it either, it's also as local as he's going to get to home while still playing in a big league too.

Personal happiness is really undervalued in the football world though. We still look at everyone like we're playing Football Manager at the same time forgetting they are actually people like you & I. If you aren't in a job you're happy at (that's in essence what it is) you want to go ultimately, no matter the position/company. Money isn't really a factor in this case because he's most likely going to get paid more where ever he goes anyway.

The whole backtracking on a career when you're arguably in your prime is odd though, in any field and I can't think of too many successful times this has happened, particularly with the way he breezed the EPL when he was here last time.

Maldini: 'Ancelotti can win in Madrid'

Paolo Maldini trusts new Real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti will find success. “He can win in Madrid after triumph in Milan, London and Paris.”

The tactician put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Merengues this morning and will be presented to the media tomorrow.

He has won League titles at Milan, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

“Of all the Coaches I have had in my career, Ancelotti is the one who controlled the locker room better than anyone else,” Maldini told Spanish newspaper AS.

“The team was calm thanks to him and that was the secret of Milan’s victories. He is a very intelligent Coach.

I believe so yes. The quality of the teams he's had, he should have a far larger trophy haul.

They need somebody like Carlo right now, somebody that won't embarrass the club in pathetic press conferences, and can unite the broken locker room that Mourinho created.

Still scored 16 goals for Barca last season while being a bench player most of the time. For 5m, which is peanuts these day, it's a bargain. In a team that can provide him regular playing time he can still give few good years.

barcelona have made Gerardo "Tata" Martino their new coach. The Argentinian, who led Newell's Old Boys to the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores, will sign a three-year deal at the Camp Nou, following Tito Vilanova's decision on Friday to resign because of a recurrence of the cancer that he first suffered in 2011.

Martino will be accompanied by his normal backroom team, including the assistants Elvio Paolorroso and Jorge Pautasso. It is not yet clear if Vilanova's assistants, Jordi Roura and the recently signed Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, known as Rubí, will continue.

Barcelona spoke to the 50-year-old Martino before the weekend, as soon as they knew that Vilanova had to step down, and they reached an agreement by video conference call on Monday morning. Barcelona hope to make a formal announcement and hold a presentation in the coming days. Contracts are still to be formalised, however, and Martino is not expected in Barcelona until Wednesday – too late to take charge of the club's friendly against Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich.

Timing has been a key factor in the appointment, both from the perspective of the club and that of the coach. Real Sociedad and Málaga had approached Martino about taking over as manager this season. One of the reasons that he turned both clubs down was that Newell's were still competing in the Copa Libertadores. A semi-final defeat to Atlético Mineiro meant that he is now available.

Barcelona also spoke to the former midfielder and Barcelona B team coach Luis Enrique, who was widely considered the favourite. Luis Enrique, though, had only recently committed his future to Celta Vigo for the coming season. The other man that Barcelona had in mind as manager, both when Guardiola stepped down and early this summer, was Ernesto Valverde. But with Vilanova believing at the time that he was well enough to continue, Valverde agreed to join Athletic Bilbao.

It remains to be seen whether the final decision came from the board and the president, Sandro Rosell, or the sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta. There has also been some suggestion that in consultation with the squad, Martino emerged as a more popular appointment than Luis Enrique. Leo Messi, like Martino born in Rosario, publicly praised him more than a year ago and Martino is an admirer of the Barcelona player. "It turns out that 20 years later, we [Argentinians] have the best player in the world again," he said.

Martino's appointment breaks with a recent commitment to promote from within and, going back further, with Barcelona's Dutch identity.

Yet Martino is considered a student of Marcelo Bielsa, under whom he played for Newell's, and a man who is likely to represent a certain degree of continuity at the Camp Nou. Bielsa had been among those coaches from whom Guardiola had sought advice as he set out.

Martino, though, is considered more pragmatic than Bielsa and far more adept at handling players on a personal level. He is a legend at Newell's, whom he dragged out of a crisis to win the title and has a stand named after him at the club's stadium. He is best known in Spain for managing the Paraguay side that narrowly lost 1-0 to la selección at the 2010 World Cup.He likes his side to pressure high up the pitch and play attacking football, based on dominating possession.

"I identify with Barcelona," Martino has said. He has supported the way the Catalan club have looked to play in recent years and defended them against critics who, he insisted, have unfairly sought to diminish their achievements.

Hope Tito will manage to beat this cancer.
