Just watched the FA Cup Highlights show on ITV. I think the Arsenal penalty was a penalty, Walcott was through and the tug did affect his balance so I think that penalty is fair enough.
As for the Sheffield United penalty, Cuellar does make minimal contact with the ball, but I have to say that I think it is still a penalty. The whole point of 'getting the ball' means you take it out of that players posession, but there wasn't enough contact on the ball for it to be deemed Cuellar 'getting the ball'. It did look like he'd taken more of the ball from where I saw it, but seeing replays it would have been harsh not to give it.
Well done to GH for putting out a full team. Some managers in our position would put out the subs and reserves.

Turns out it wasn't just Rosicky.
ClickyWhat's that meant to be? The 2 tackles were fine at the start, a little tough but they were fair tackles. Not really sure what that video is meant to prove.
If that's a fair penalty then nearly every single corner there should be a penalty I'm afraid, when shirt tugging goes on. Non-contact sport is coming into play by the looks of it. In my mind it's 50-50. Though it was blatantly obvious that the ref wanted to give a pen immediately after the first one (where Walcott himself said he dived).
The worse decision was not to send off Rosicky without a shadow of a doubt though. When you're on a yellow card and go sliding in on someone, not win the ball and prevent the break that's a booking, just like it was every single other time, so why not then?!

Because, as you and Kurt have spent the last two pages of this thread pointing out, refs make mistakes?
I can't see how anyone can say the tug on Walcott isn't a penalty, so pulling people off balance when they're through on goal is a perfectly ok defensive technique? As for the tackle, the first and the third is basically mowing down the player. Second one not so much.

I'm usually the one defending them! I just think Arsenal were a little fortunate yesterday. Especially with the Rosicky case. As I said about the penalty I think it's 50-50, I mean Walcott has the stature of a 15/16 year old boy, Wiki lists him as 5ft 9, but I don't see that let alone his relative weakness compared. That means any slight pull, touch will knock him over running at speed or not. I don't see a 5ft 11+ guy going down like that from the pull without being suspect of diving, why is it not the same for Theo?
Does this mean referees need to judge offences by the individual that they are commited on? Again, you see bigger shirt pulling every single game in the penalty box at corners, why are these not given?
Apart from one foul on Rosicky I see nothing in that video. The other tackles are fine, the guy won the ball and took the player I see nothing wrong with it, they are not OTT tackles just firm, strong tackles. If they're fouls then we all might as well welcome touch football (non-physical).

2-2 now after a Hart mistake. If anyone deserves to win it's Leicester, the FA Cup's a funny old thing.
De Jong 8 yards out, great save from the Leicester keeper. Good to see Vassell getting his career back on track as well at Leicester.

I didn't think it was at the time, though from seeing replays there is a sign of a lunge and it is double-footed, in today's game that's more than likely going to result in a red-card.

The top 2 teams played in the Reserve League tonight..
Villa Reserves 10-1 Arsenal Reserves

Herd (3), Wiemann (2), Delfouneso (2), Gardner (2), Hogg. Not sure who got the Arsenal goal. That's embarassing for an Arsenal team with the likes of Eastmund and Emmanual-Thomas, who Wenger has tipped to play a part for Arsenal in the future. Admittedly it was a fairly strong Villa side with the likes of Herd, Hogg, Lichaj, Delfouneso, Wiemann, Lowry and Baker, but that's still quite amazing.
Gary Gardner looks like he'll be decent, think he's still only 17 and he's been destroying the Under-18s league which is why he's now in the reserve team. Certainly better than his turncoat prick of a brother.

A MUM-TO-BE last night claimed her boyfriend attacked an FA Cup hero on the pitch - because she used to date the player.
Jade Coles, 24, said her fella Rob Fitzgerald punched Stevenage star Scott Laird watched by millions on TV after a match on Saturday.
She said "tipsy" Rob thought he was "defending her honour".
He joined joyous fans running from the stands at the end of the Hertfordshire side's 3-1 triumph over Premier League Newcastle. Jade, 24, explained: "I haven't been in a relationship with Scott now for two or three years but Rob knows about it.
"Scott was a player and I don't mean on the pitch. He was a bit of a ladies' man.
"Rob was at the game celebrating the victory on the pitch. He saw Scott celebrating and just lost his temper. He'd been drinking and that's why it happened.
"He was being protective. It was a moment of madness."
Blonde Jade, from Letchworth, spoke after Rob, 24, was arrested on suspicion of assault. She went on: "I'm not going to say anymore as Rob is giving a statement to police."
Footie fans were shocked when they saw left back Laird knocked to the floor by a fan in a red and white Stevenage Borough scarf as the Broadhall Way crowd went wild at the full-time whistle.
Police and the club urged fellow supporters to name the culprit.
But Scott insisted at the time: "I'm OK. It was a fantastic day for everyone at Stevenage and I don't want to let the incident take the gloss away."
Team boss Graham Westley said: "He said to me, 'It's lucky I've got a big head to take it.' It was a sad way for things to end."
Last night a spokesperson for the club said: "Scott does know Jade but they haven't had any contact for 2½ years and they never dated."
Police confirmed a 24-year-old man from Stevenage was being held in custody after handing himself in shortly before 2pm.
A spokesman said: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault following an alleged offence at Stevenage football ground on January 8.
"He is currently in police custody. Officers are still keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the alleged offence."

It didn't actually happen in the EPL.
There's a general premise of no-one is allowed on the pitch, yet if it's a unexpected cup victory it seems to be ok for them to do so, this should be a reason as to why under no circumstances fans should be allowed on the pitch.
As for the guy, yeah great way to protect your honour, punch someone when they're not looking then run away, really heroic stuff.

Same when Birmingham beat you. I mean the vast majority of people do it with the greatest of intentions, being on their favourite football teams pitch is a potential once in a lifetime experience. Though, when things happen like this it shows that it's not really a good idea in terms of safety. If this guy was tipsy, imagine if he had a knife on him, the guy who got punched might very well at this moment in time be fighting for his life, or worse. I know stewards only check baggage, they don't check your pockets at most grounds so this could easily occur.
It's horrible to say but I think it's going to take something like that to fix this issue. Though, hopefully a few clubs will take note from this and stop it from happening.

At Villa they generally check your bags and coats/jackets. Although, I remember when I went with an ex, they never, ever, checked her. It's probably because the security people were all male and I'm not sure if they're allowed? But she could have had anything in her pockets.
I'd imagine security might be worse at lower league grounds.

I've never been patted down or anything, I don't take any bags or stuff, I've had mates have bags and they've all been checked. They took one's bag for the game because he had deodorant in it, why he did I have no idea! Every where I've been it's been the same, girls get the same treatment, check the bags and that's it, least in my experience.
I'm not sure if legally they are allowed too, the police may have to do it if they have any worries. They can go over you with that wand sort of thing that picks up metal objects though. The type they use in nightclubs, and yes it would always pick up your belt!
