Does Criscito play often? I know he had some off field trouble for the Euros, has he made it back in the team since?

I don't think he's been called by Prandelli ever since, but I believe he's a regular for Zenit.

Hold on, I just noticed, no Verratti??? DAFUQ?! blink.gif

He's with the under 21 team, they have European Championship coming up in a few days.

I think this is just wrong. It would be much better for him AND his team to be with the seniors, getting ready and acclimating himself with the team.

Someone like him shouldn't be with the under 21s. He's missing out on important time with his senior team mates and unnecessarily taking another player's spot from the U 21, someone who would benefit from it much more than Varretti
Fillipo Simone
Especially since MDS is on board.

I think it wasn't bad decision. he's a quality star and will be a good leader for the U-21 team. and it's the Confederations Cups, who cares? he will be there for the World Cup, that's what matters not that Micky Mouse cup. Italy winning the U-21 is far more important if you ask me.

I wish they'd let DS be with the U-21 too.

Agreed, plus you have a new generation coming in, and for that matter in particular it is good that he builds a rapport with the U21 players.

QUOTE (Football Italia)
Giovinco doesn’t deserve Italy 10

Sebastian Giovinco will wear the Italian No 10 shirt at the Confederations Cup, a jersey which Dave Taylor thinks is too big for him.

Did you see Lorenzo Insigne’s goal for the Italian Under-21s against England in midweek? Now that’s what a No 10 should bring to the table. Furthermore, he was absolutely outstanding in the first half and – along with several others – should be in the Azzurri’s World Cup squad next summer.

The way he caressed the ball and twisted through England’s defence rekindled memories of past greats, Italian legends such as Roberto Baggio, Alessandro Del Piero, Francesco Totti, Gianni Rivera and Giancarlo Antognoni. They too were all fabulous players and could change a match in an instant. Furthermore, they all had one thing in common – the No 10 shirt was their second skin.

Sadly, the strength and prestige of that mythical number today has been very much diluted. Some may think it’s just a figure, but there are those who believe the 10 should not be handed out willy-nilly, especially in Italy where it’s not just a number but a calling card.

It is the shirt that is worn by the individual, like any of the above, who has unparalleled vision, the player who floats between the front line and the midfield as well as linking them. He is that special character who is blessed with an ability to see two or three moves in front of his teammates and exploit it accordingly.

In Brazil later this month, during the Confederations Cup, that special shirt will be handed to Juventus’ Sebastian Giovinco. For all his diversity, the Juve No 12 is hardly a salute in the direction of the greats who wore the shirt before him.

Clearly that number is not exclusive to the very best any longer after players of differing character – including Daniele De Rossi, Antonio Di Natale and Pablo Osvaldo – have worn it in the recent past.

What is mystifying, however, is how can Giovinco be a No 10 for his country when he has failed to claim the same unused jersey in Turin? It just doesn’t feel right. For a player to wear the 10 shirt for their national team, particularly on the peninsula, you would expect him to wear it for his club side.

Of course, not too long ago, it was expected that he would become the new Del Piero, but that has just not materialised. His only relevance to Pinturicchio, in reality, is that he is playing for Juventus. He may have been one of the Old Lady’s top scorers in the past campaign, but he rightly has his doubters – even amongst the Juve faithful.

There’s actually an argument over whether Sebastian should have even been called up to the Azzurri squad, never mind being handed the biggest shirt of all. There are a number of Under-21 internationals who Prandelli has admitted are pushing for full selection and Giovinco could be a victim of that talent which is coming through.

Right now, at best, Giovinco will only come off the bench in an emergency situation. He is certainly no driving force behind this side, not a player who can change the match in an instant. And he’s definitely not big or atomic enough to be given the sacred Italian No 10 – no matter how thin the squad may be.

Spot on.

I was shocked when I saw #10 had been given to him...

Maybe they should buy give him a smaller size one then, he is pretty small.
X-Offender
Considering our #10 shirt, which has been worn through the times by Rivera, Gullit, Savicevic, Boban, Rui Costa and Seedorf, now is worn by frigging Boateng, Giovinco's situation doesn't really seem that outrageous.
Fillipo Simone
The number 10 lost it's magic these days. Not just with Milan, take a look at other clubs as well.
dst
No. 7 too.
kurtsimonw
Numbers are for trademarks not positions nowadays. Gallas was #10 FFS.

This is my point exactly when I talk about the Juve defenders when playing for club vs when playing for country.

This game is so fucking boring..

So ended 0-0 and Balo was sent off. One of the worst Italy games in recent years.

Albania 1-1 Norway

Damn it! They equalized in the 87'. If we had won, we'd be first in our group. So bummed. sad.gif
Fillipo Simone
Croatia loosing embarrassingly to Scotland.

But the flop of the night goes to Benteke. Horrible display, missed two sitters.

Benteke miss
kurtsimonw
Great news for Villa. Hopefully stuff like this puts people off the £40m tag.
KillerMax
Torres would be proud!
kurtsimonw
Montenegro... laugh.gif

They had the opportunity to really put England under immense pressure and have 1 foot in Brazil. Ukraine go down to 10 men IN Montenegro and still smash them. Admittedly the home side had some players sent off after that, but still, going 1-0 down at home v 10 men in one of the most important games in the nations history is crap.

Brazil-France

Viva la France! I hope Brazil flop badly, especially their attackers.

Barely one minute played and Neymar manages to waste a good chance through his selfishness. you're going to be a hit at Barca, where team work is everything rolleyes.gif

I hope Brazil reach double figures.

In your dreams tongue.gif France the better team so far.
KillerMax
France was so piss poor. Brazil impressed me. With Thiago Silva in the heart of their defense, this team can go far. And Hernanes is amazing.
Zed.D
FT. 3-0

Misleading result. Italy can beat this team. France play like Dortmund but they're clueless in attack, can't create anything.

As for Neymar, Until proven otherwise, he is the new Robinho. except that Robinho was more exciting when he first emerged. all he did was a simple assist to Hernanes, no biggie. he will probably become better at Barca, though.

Japan and Italy will stop and even beat this Brazil. mark my words!

What impresses me the most about Brazil is the trio of Hernanes, Lucas and Oscar. none of them deserve to sit on bench.

Aye, the #11. happy.gif As for goalies, Wakashimazu had my attention for pretty much all the episodes he was in, but Wakabayashi is still iconic. And he still had it in when called upon.

Argentina player in acting like a total **** shocker.

There's obviously been worse kicks, but FIFA need to just start telling players that if you hit/kick someone like that then we'll let the police decide what action should be taken. You can't go around kicking people, especially someone not even playing, just because you're a pro footballer.
X-Offender
So, the Confed Cup starts tomorrow, and Italy play Mexico the next day. According to Mediaset, Prandelli will play a 4-3-2-1 formation with Marchisio and Giaccherini as AMs behind Balotelli.

Thank god I'm not even a great advocate of football these days but there's literally nothing else to watch sport wise at the moment. Aside of reruns of the NBA/NHL as I only really stay up for the NFL season these days otherwise I'd never get any sleep laugh.gif

Brazil with a fairly comprehensive victory last night, Spain-Uruguay could be pretty good tonight.
Zed.D
I expected more from Japan dry.gif but I have to admit Brazil looked better compared to 5-6 games ago (whenever those were). but the first real test for Brazil will be Italy and I find it hard to imagine that they stand any chance against Spain.
Fillipo Simone
And even if they win people will say - "ah, it's only the Confederations Cup, Spain didn't even try"...
