Well... overrated or not - nowadays - he is the best foward in the world.
I don't agree with either statement.
He's not the best forward in the world. Far from it. I can't say for certain who is the best right now... but I think in a few years Alexandre Pato will be far better than Torres.
And in all practical senses, Fernando Torres DID NOT do well for most of the Euro Cup. David Villa did... Villa is a better forward than Torres.

Everyone in the EPL is overrated. Rooney, Ronaldo, Scholes, Giggs, Gerrard, Lampard, Terry (!), Ferdinand, Vidic, Torres, Barry, Carragher, Carrick (!), Downing, etc etc etc.
No mather how good you are. EPL makes you better.
Funny to see that after the Inter-Liverpool last season, no one here called Torres overrated.

Yes, this actually reminds me how Inter was overrated last season.

Non sense.
Silva did well in the Euro. Much better than Cristiano Ronaldo.
That makes David Silva a better player?
Why do you keep talking about the Euros... talk about the entire season of either player.
Torres : 46 matches - 33 goals = 0,72
Villa : 40 - 22 goals = 0,55
Not to say that it was El Nino's first season in England. Oh, and that he broke Ruud van Nistelrooy's debut-season-in-EPL record. Not to say he's 3 years younger.
Bad season for Valencia? It wasn't a good one for Liverpool too.

I keep talking about the Euros because it's relevant and a major tournament.
Why do you insist on raising this overrated kid to the level of a god? Take Adebayor for example who scored tons of goals, but a lot of them were against teams like Derby County. Just like Torres.

One cannot count just the league or just the Euros. One should take the entirety of play into account.
Overall, I'd say that yes, Torres is one of the better forwards in Europe. His goal/minutes ratio is high though he didn't explode at the Euros as many were expecting him to do. Villa is also very good and showed that at the Euros, though his club performances didn't necessarily show that this year.
As for Valencia's issues, I would say that last year's fiasco was more to do with the disastrously poor coaching by Koeman than issues relating to any particular player or players.

So? Van Basten didn't scored only against Juventus, or Inter.
Talking about Torres as an "overrated kid" is just ridiculous. Spastic.

Nah, he'd probably glower a bit but wouldn't say much. He might suggest it's a smart tactic as progressing into the CL would keep the Zebras attention there and possibly divert 'em a bit from the league, but I don't think you'd have to be put into the piranha tank with R7.

There can be no doubt he was absolutely superb in the final of the Euro. Mertesacker, Metzelder and Lahm didn't contain him at ANY point of the game. If Lehmann would not have had one his better days (don't even wanna think about the result if he had Lehmann crazy man day) Torres would have scored some more.

i dont recall villa contributing beyond the group stage. i mean good for you, he got 3 of his 4 goals in one game and russia defended like amateurs during that game.
while torres scored the deciding goal, and dont tell me spain wouldnt have qualified for the knockout stage if it wasnt for villa.

Habitant, you're probably right. My favorite Spanish player of that entire tournament was actually Xavi. He was key in those games. Very critical in the midfield. I'd love to see Xavi play in Milan... even though he's a tad bit short, he's quite a player.
Edit: Don't mean to double edit, but I removed Dru's quote as my post says nothing on it.
