If you're looking at it like that then adapt it to Alves. It's not he got married to Sevilla, and wants out straight away because he feels he's too good for her. THAT is far worse.

Shevchenko played in a top-club with history and tradition, with a top-salary, with top-teammates.

Alves plays for Sevilla. He earns 4 times less he could earn in Chelsea or Madrid. He and Kanoute (maybe Navas long-term) are just too good for Sevilla like it or not.

By the way, who's Sevilla? No history, no titles (CL or La Liga), no tradition, no top-salaries, maybe 1 or 2 world-class players.

You can't just look at it like that all the time. 

Surely that means the Shevchenko thing wasn't as bad then? He's leaving a top club who can easily replace him, it's much harder for Sevilla to replace Alves and he knows that.

This is why I'm very 'pro-EPL'. People call English people arrogant, but we won't insult a smaller club because they're not infinitely succesful. A small club needs to hang on to a player now and then to make themself big. If it wasn't for Milan keeping their best player in the early days they would be nothing, just like every club.

No Villarreal Redemption For Riquelme

Marca reports that, after Juan Roman Riquelme's mooted move to Boca Juniors fell through, he will not be considered part of the Villarreal squad. Instead, the playmaker will sit in the stands until the transfer window opens...

Marca claims that Juan Roman Riquelme turned down offers from all across Europe - including bids from sides such as Bayern and Atletico - but rejected them all as he had eyes only for former club Boca Juniors.

For financial reasons, no move back to Buenos Aires was forthcoming, so now Riquelme won't be going there.

Nor will he play again for Villarreal.

The sporting daily claims that the player has moved even further out of favour now at the Madrigal and will spend the following months watching from the stands, unable to integrate himself into the squad.

Riquelme apparently might have considered a move elsewhere in Spain, with Betis and Zaragoza said to be interested, but neither club had the wherewithal to make a bid, meaning it's four months out of action for the Argentina international.
