I look at this as a nice wake up call. I don't think this situtation will EVER happen again in the history of Milan. You don't learn to be the best without making mistakes.

Don't bet on it. This has happened before (I'm sure older members here at the forum will be able to tell you this), and will happen again. The cycle ends and restarts. Plus, the way our board has been running things expect something similar once Pirlo, Gattuso, Amrbo, etc are nearing the end of their careers. dry.gif

A scenario I could see happening is Italy losing in the group stages and Carlo moving on to the national team, and then Milan signing Lippi or Rikjaard. This is under the assumption Barcelona don't win it all, which I think they're the favorites.

Yes, true. I believe we'll lift another CL before the turn of the decade, and another couple of them after Paolo's sons join the team - the dynasty will continue. king.gif

By the way, young Christian's team is doing rather well this year.

I'm really looking forward to when Daniel starts, though. HE is the one who unleashed a slide tackle on Seedorf and dispossessed him of the ball (clip on youtube) in such a way that proves to many (including me) that slide tackling is a genetic ability. Pity he's only 6.
KingKaka
course it will and we will all be around to see it might take a year maybe 5 or 10 but it will happen and u no what pato is gonna be king
acid911
Agree with what you two have said, and Tenster and KK. Both the lads are doing well, and if I were them I'd work day in and day out to hone my skills. I heard Paolo and Caesar say that they won't push the kids into choosing Football as a profession, but if they want to they can continue the dynasty. Plus I read Christian even wants Paolo to keep playing (hehe, image Christian's first match along with his father at Milan). I understand it won't happen, but oh, I'm so lucky to be living in the Age of Maldini! cool.gif

Fingers crossed we make some good signings this summer, starting with some world class strikers.
LaPalma
Age of Maldini...sounds good to me.

Btw...I forgot to mention someone I'd like to see in Milan next year:

Maio Gomez

A bright talent from Germany. He was "Football player of the year" in 2007 and he's only 22 yo. He's a very strong guy with a nice shot, he's good in the air, etc.

But then I was almost always wrong when it came to the class of german players, especially strikers (Poldi dry.gif ...).

As I said before. I love Zambrotta. But we need speed, youth, freshness on the RB or LB. We need a man who can attack, cross. Zambro isn't bad for that but never the first choice. We need a new Cafu or Sergio. Someone who has a +C/-B in defensive work and a A in offensive...

I hope they both make it to the senior team. Even if Maldini's quality has been halved between them we are going to be just fine! king.gif

Drogba Milan's Number One Target

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is top of AC Milan's shopping list, according to reports. The Rossoneri are willing to spend €20m (£15m) to get their man.

This is not the first time that the Ivorian - whose future at Stamford Bridge is less than clear - has been linked with Milan.

But the Rossoneri's early exit from the Champions League has hammered home to top officials that they are crying out for a decent centre forward.  Drogba, it seems, is top of their wish list.

Wednesday Meeting

According to the Sun, Milan technical director Ariedo Braida met Drogba's representatives in Italy on Wednesday, just a day after the European exit to Arsenal.

"Milan are crazy about Didier. There was a meeting in Milan this week and the Italians said Didier is their priority for this summer," a source close to Drogba reportedly confirmed to the newspaper.

Wage Bitterness

The 30-year-old is said to be unhappy with his wages at Stamford Bridge, which are less than half those earned by club skipper John Terry.  Chelsea have thus far failed to honour their promise to him of a pay rise, a vow made after last season's FA Cup triumph.

€20m The Limit

One stumbling block may be the price that Chelsea demand for the striker, who has been quoted in several French publications in recent months as saying he wanted to move on following José Mourinho's departure.  Milan have allegedly told the Ivorian star to put pressure on the Blues to allow a move to go through for €20m or less - the Rossoneri have made it clear that they won't be held to ransom.  Drogba joined Chelsea from Marseille for close to double that amount in 2004.

I'd be happy with this. Not only about the transfer itself but because it would mean another thing too.

Rafinha? As I said before, excellent choice. Would be very welcome to come in.
Luka Modric? He's exactly what we would need. Only thing he needs right now is a coach like Carlo to "invent" a new position-combo for Luka, like he did with Seedorf and Pirlo.

really? I dont see it as too bad. Drogba is physical and proven worldclass while pato is definetly extraordinary so he should start. I dont look at him as a 18 year old. He plays much better, when hes not acting like a school-kid. Paloschi still has room to grow and he will become excellent given match time.

+ if carlo is stayin it garuntees next season it'll be seedorf/gourcuff and kaka plus one foreward.

Add to that list one Suazo type player, and we will be set. For example:

Drogba, Pato, Saviola, Paloschi, Inzaghi

Now that looks pretty healthy.

How often is Inzaghi fit and available to play? Not very often. Paloschi will get his chance, but you are right, Ancelotti is not the type of coach to develop youngsters.

Seems like everybody has forgotten about Huntelaar. Just like Berbatov, he is going to waste in a mediocre team. The team that signs him will get the better end of the deal because 1) He is not very expensive 2) He has so much quality

It seems he's not gonna repeat many youngsters' mistake of leaving for a big club in a rush. I like him a lot. he's very intelligent.

Quagliarella is extremely versatile, he play play anywhere in midfield and attack, except CM. Lets say is Seedorf gets injured, he can easily slot into his position, in the Trequartista role or even as an SS or CF, not to mention he can go out wide if need be

The health and age of (most) of our players means he will find space
omahawi
Huntelaar would be a great option along with Drogba who i absolutely love to watch play. I can't remember what game I was watching him play in. It was 1 on 1 with the defender with a ball that got played to him in the air at the top of the box. He had no support. He was spun around by the defender still managed to get seperation after the ball was played a couple yards into the box. The keeper then came out after the ball. Drogba pushed it to the side while getting clipped by the keeper. Clearly a penalty. Instead of going down he ran down the ball and put the ball into the open net. NOW THAT IS CLASS!

Combine him and Huntelaar who has a knack for being in the right place at the right time and Pato who can run at people I think you have yourself a great attacking core.
acid911
I agree. I'd love to see Huntelaar in Milan too. Drogba is one of the best around, but then again he's on the right side of 30, so he'll be as good as Sheva in my opinion. Hunt would be a longterm option, coupled with some solid signings in the midfield and defense. king.gif

Sergio Agüero is very fast but he is a player that we will never get. They did pay 20 million Euros when he was 16/17 years old, I can't imagaine how much they want for him now.
Panama Devil
Every single time that we hear Galliani's or Ancelotti's explanations or excuses when our team doesn't play the way we all want them to play we are all listening to the reasons that support the need to get new young players.

When we hear these excuses we can find words and phrases like: injuries, tired, tight schedule, not enough time, too many games, etc.

AC Milan has been a winning team for the last 20 years but we cannot forget that during those 20 years we had a small period of darkness during the late 90's. We cannot fall into that scenario again just because of stubborness. Our team, as a company, has to be present in all the big tournaments. I'm not saying that we are already a complete chaos but forget about what we've won in the last years and look where we are right now: TRYING TO GET TO FOURTH PLACE ... THAT'S IT!

We have to start thinking about the future.

Let's take Arsenal FC as an example: We were eliminated by a very good team, a team that is in first place in the EP and a team that is playing a fast, fun and effective game. They deserved to qualify because of what they showed. It's interesting to see how a team that lost Pires, Henry, Viera, etc. (due to various reasons after being one of the best teams in the world) are such a good team again. They began hiring young talented players.

Our team's core is very good. We have Kaka and we have Pato. But we cannot let them run George Weah's fate. We have to accept that even though we have a good team, we do not have enough depth to fight 2 or 3 fronts at the same time. It all started last year ... we won the Champions but we barely made it to the first four. Now we were eliminated and we still have to fight for the fourth spot. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? Players are too tired, some are too old to play so often at the highest level and we do not have enough depth.

The other thing we need is to stop hiring players TOO specialized in their fields. WHAT DO I MEAN BY THIS?

We can hire a player who fights the ball in the middle like a dog but can still make good passes and can still get a good shot at the enemy keep.

We all love Gattuso but it would realy be nice if he could take a good shot once in a while. Same story for Brocchi.

Pirlo is great but we need somebody else to run the show on the other half of the field. I dunno what you people think but I really like it when Pirlo has played in the front. Distributing the ball and making those cool passes. We need another good passer to play in a more attacking role. We all know Kaka is not the passing type midfielder.

During the last couple of years our attack has been relying on few players. We are TOO PREDICTIBLE as a team.

We need more attack and more skilled players. You know for me it is really depressing when I see my idol (Maldini) play on the left and attack with such a good skill and seeing that the younger players we have cannot do that. Right now Maldini is our most talented and skilled player that can play an attacking role on the flanks.

Just take a look and see how the Arsenal kids attack from everyside of the field. They come from the left, the right, the middle, long passes, short passes, fast one touch passes. That's what we need OPTIONS ON THE FIELD.

This guy NEVES seems like a very skillfull and strong player and he uses both legs. We should get him, as well as Drogba and Huntelaar to replace Gila.

I'm sorry for all Gila supporters ... who knows ... maybe his destiny is to be a good forward somewhere else but it is not going to happen with AC Milan. Gila has no skills, misses too much, doesn't knows to position himself like Pippo and is a terrible shooter. AC Milan and Gilardino are not meant to be.

Couldn't have said it better. Neves could be an excellent option here. Look at how Arsenal got the first goal. Febregas knew things were not connecting well, so he took the matters in his own hands. The only play who I've regularly seen hit long range shots is Gorcuff. Or Seedorf when he was young. You never know when a ball might go in, or the keeper spills it and your strikers can work his magic. biggrin.gif

100%. For a defender, Paolo has great vision. I've seen a whole bunch of great air balls and crosses from our captain, a good chunk of which have resulted in goals. In fact, in games (FIFA and PES) I always play him in a slightly more attacking role. Oddo or someone else can't even come close - even in games! smile.gif

Right. I guess we shouldn't waste his career then. If he can't improve, adapt, or improvise, then let him go to another club where he can shine. No point in playing and bashing the man. dry.gif
