So who are they great Italian defenders?Just Chiellini?

Grosso, Chiellini, Nesta, Dossena...

My female coworkers like him! smile.gif

Grosso was quite impressive in the Euro Cup, and everyone has to remember the one goal he made against Germany, which is forever in my mind.

I'd love to see him play for Milan one of these days.

... and we had a Brazilian defender before, Cafu... the only Brazilian defender we have now is Digao...

You mean Roque Junior? Man, he wasn't that good either but that final against Juve...he played like a hero with that injury. I think that moment did cost him much. Afterwards he just falled back...ended up in..Duisburg?

QUOTE

WC - Nesta, Cannavaro
Very good - Chiellini, Panucci,
Promising - Santacroce, Gamberini

But I agree, there are not so many of them...

Al Rayyan!

I was talking about the new generation. It was not that hard to find great defenders in Italy before but right now there are less and less talented defenders coming out of the youth teams.

These are the only ones right now that I believe can become WC Cheillini and Di silvestri.

No, you're not. huh.gif Grosso is the best Azurri could get after Paolo. If there is one person I'd like to wear number 3 for Italy it'll always be him. Grosso in Milan, I won't mind that too much, now that I think of it. Will solve all our problems at the left. All of them. Only issue is his club form, which has never been as good as his NT form.

He's more of the Lucas Paldoski frame, good for the NT, bad for the club. dry.gif

Well since the Milan team has many national team players maybe he'll replicate his performances in the NT at Milan.. you never know.
kurtsimonw
He certainly didn't at Inter. Shame for him, he could have been great there.

Exactly. Then again, it all comes down to 'ifs and buts'. sad.gif Maybe he could be really good with us, we'll never know unless we sign him. Plus, he can take all those spot kicks from the left, which I'm sure could help. We have Pirlo/R80/Seedorf, yes, but nothing beats the angle created by a left-foot player. Not to mention he's a darn good penalty kick tacker to boot. Maybe we should look for him after our captain decides to move on?

To me, he filled up the #3 boots in the Azurri NT half decently after Paolo retired. I can't think of anyone else who'd replace Grosso. Heck he's even the same build, has long hairs, and if fast on attack, I thought I went back in time when I watched Italy's matches in Euro 2008. Particularly vs the French. huh.gif It was almost Paolo running down the left flank.

Get back from where? Dead? laugh.gif Anyway, since FIFA doesn't allow to retire numbers for the NT, then it's infinitely better having Grosso as number 3 than say someone like Materazzi. Seriously, no one can take the place of Paolo, but if I had a choice I'd choose the next best guy.

Then again, that's just me. Hopefully this little post brings dst back. I've started missing him already. And Locke too.

Grosso + Chiellini... if I was management those would be the two defenders I'd sign. Ivanovic is fine, but those two I've always thought about playing in black and red. We do good taking Juve players (as far as Chiellini)... smile.gif

But they don't do good selling us them. biggrin.gif Juve will be very stupid to let him leave, and as far as I know Chiellini likes us in a way. He said good words about Maldini, so I can't see him rejecting if the time came. He's solid though. And Grosso is versatile. Seeing them both would be a dream come true.

You think Secco is a smart guy lol? Far from it. He's done a lot of dumb things. I'm surprised he hasn't sold Giovinco. I really wanna see Chiellini come over... he's one of my favorite Italian defenders...

Tennie
The Juve fans have actually demonstrated in Turin against Secco. They don't like him at all.

I don't think even he is dumb enough to let Chiellini go, though (much though I wish he would).

LOL. You never know I say.

I hear some Juve fans are fuming angry after it appears that Secco has now lost the potential signing of Ivanovic... to Milan. Oh boy... this is just heating up!

You and me out now! And before I kick your *** you should know that Grosso fans don't go to heaven...

Grosso never convinced me. He was amazing in the WC and was very good again this summer at the Euro but he has not been that good for his clubs. He was decent with Palermo which is not a top club, he was mediocre with Inter and from the few matches that I have seen him play in with Lyon he was good but against lower quality teams. He's not a great player in my view though I'd welcome him for a reasonable fee. However, I'd rather have a younger full-back.

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif He didn't convince me much, either. You, like I, want someone out of this world to fill in for Paolo. And both of us know it can't happen so easily. You'd need a titan to fill in for Maldini. For what options we have, Grosso is currently the best. Even you will agree to it that having him is better than having Materazzi. Or say, Zaccardo? If given a choice, who'd you choose for the number 3 shirt, dst?

It's a pity FIFA doesn't allow retiring NT shirt numbers. sleep.gif

For what it's worth, tuttomercatoweb is reporting that (as of 3.30pm London time) Braida is meeting with Chelsea representatives and Ivanovic's agent.

Argentina have done if for no.10. It can be done, unofficially... but Paolo did not always wear the no.3 shirt for Italy.
I don't really care since there's no great Italian LB right now but I'd choose Chiellini.

There's no one that can fill in for Paolo.

One of the two agents of Branislav Ivanovic, Vlado Borozan, has spoken with TMW about declaration of the player, and let understand that the agreement will be done, seed the consideration that Scolari has of the player.

How go on negotiation? Is the decisive day"? "We could not interest so much. Is a matter of society, for discretion we are not gone to aks, with the society the boy has still an agreement".

So they had a meeting and he has received the permit to leave? "Yes, still since some day. Now need only to solve with society: The boy has tried by himself, without results, Milan have moved on and are trying to accelerate. I can't say you anything more, because is not my duty".

Scolari and the player have meet each other? "Yes, they had. The manager put him aside, leaving to the society every decision, so is still a matter between Milan and Chelsea"

A.C. Milan officialise the transfer of footballer Dario Simic to French club As Monaco Fc. Milan also communicates the temporary sale of the footballer Rodrigo Digao to Belgian club Royal Standard de Liege.

so i guess the signing of ivanovic is pretty much done.

Yeah, it's pretty much on the way. Simic and Digao leaving most likely will open that... say does anyone know how much Simic was sold for, or was that not disclosed yet?
Tennie
The tuttomercatoweb thing that CMF quotes above is an interview with Ivanovic's agent in which he basically says that it's up to the clubs, that Scolari (and therefore presumably Chelsea) have given Ivanovic the okay to leave, etc. Sounds like it's just haggling over prices now.

And ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif gosh, Habitant. I'm a little surprised they loaned Digao out. Interesting tidbit, that.
Zed.D
Digao is fast and has a great physique. maybe he needs some playing time in a small team to become as good as Milan's fourth or fifth choice CB should be...
whoarethepatriots
What happened to our Nepotistic ways? i wasnt expecting Digao to be loaned out. What next Seedorf's brother is released?

I think Kaka probably wanted his brother to get some playing time... and there he would. It might help him too with his skills...

I'm filing this one under 'speculation' (ie, it's just a rumor) but tuttomercatoweb is reporting that there have been conversations between Milan and Bari (which is in Serie B; they have chickens on their jerseys) regarding a possible January loan of Paloschi. Bari'd like him now, so the article says, but Milan are understandably not willing to let go their only healthy striker.

It'd be absurd to loan Paloschi now, and it'd be even more absurd to loan him to a Serie B side when there are some good sides in Serie A who'd all gladly take him.
